Mellenberndt, Korthals, and Roemen add to Season Win Totals

(July 28, 2006-Rock Rapids, IA) Bret Mellenberndt picked up his fourth win of the season in the Wingless Sprints. Darrin Korthals picked up his sixth win of the year in Late Model Stock Cars. Devon McMartin got his second feature win in a row in USRA B-Modifieds. Randy Rosenboom won his first race of the season in the Wissota Late Models. Greg Roemen won his fifth Sportsmen feature of the year. Shane Klaassen was able to pick up his second win in the Hobby Stock feature. In the Factory Stock Ryan Mulder got his second win of the year.
Willie Hasvold started in the third position and was able to get by both Bret Mellenberndt and Leon DeBoer to lead the first lap of the Heartland Racing Association Wingless Sprint feature. Mellenberndt bounced back to lead the remaining seven laps. There were two cautions in the event. Both were for Willie Hasvold spinning. One occurred on lap three and the other on lap six. Following Mellenberndt to the line was Mitch Coburn in second and DeBoer in third.
Darrin Korthals continued his Rapid Speedway domination by leading every lap en route to victory in the NMRA Late Model Stock Car feature. On lap three Scott and Chad Overgaard were racing for the second position. Scott got into Chad and sent him around in turn three. Scott got sent to the back while Chad got his position back. No one was able to challenge Korthals and he easily picked up the win. Chad Overgaard finished in second. He was followed by Anthony Mann, Don Gerritsen, Jr., and Scott Overgaard.
Tate Eining started on the pole of the USRA B-Modified feature. He led the first two laps until Devon McMartin, Kevin Broesder, and Clint Potter went three-wide for first. McMartin came out with the lead. The other big story of this race was Andy Hofmeyer. Hofmeyer was using Alicia Ahrendts car after experiencing engine problems the night before at Husets. Hofmeyer started in the sixth position by lap six he was in fifth. He moved up to fourth on lap eight. On lap ten Hofmeyer was in the second position. At the line McMartin took the win and Hofmeyer held onto second. Jeremy Klaassen came in third while Potter took fourth. Eining finished in fifth.
Randy Rosenboom started on the pole and led all 12 laps of a very exciting Wissota Late Model feature. Darrin Korthals and Jason Schoenefeld battled all race long for the fourth position. Late in the race Schoenefeld got loose and dropped out of the top five. Jason Fritzshe and Dale Furby also had a good battle for the second position. When it was all over the only thing certain was Rosenboom getting the win. Fritzshe ended up taking the second spot over Furby. Korthals took the fourth spot over Rick Goth.
Greg Roemen, Billy Sprock, and Glenn Wynia all battled in the opening laps for the lead in the Sportsmen feature. Roemen led the first lap while Wynia took the second lap. By the third lap Roemen took control of the race. Chris Huisman work his way up to battle Sprock for the second position on lap five. Roemen picked up the win followed by Huisman in second. Sprock followed in third. Bryan Wynia finished in fourth while Jon DeBoer rounded out the top five.
Shane Klaassen took the lead from Jared Nytroe on lap two of the Hobby Stock feature. Nytroe moved back to battle with Kevin Joachim for second. Nytroe got pushed back to third and Joachim ended up getting loose and sliding back to fifth. Mark VandenTop and Mike Buss were battling for second when they spun in the fourth turn on lap 11. VandenTop was given the second position back. Klaassen held on to take the win. VandenTop finished in second while Nytroe came in third. Dereck Vander Brink came in fourth and Bill Kroon finished out the top five.
Ryan Mulder led all eight laps on his way to victory in the Factory Stock feature. Dan Roemen and Greg Vande Velde battled for the third position throughout the entire event. In the closing laps Jesse Ebbesen moved up to battle Mitch Van Engen for the third spot. Mulder took the checkers and he was followed by Dusty VanderBrink. Van Engen finished in third while Ebbesen finished in fourth. Roemen rounded out the top five.
Make sure you are at Husets Speedway in Brandon, SD this Thursday, August 3 for the season championship of the Thursday Night Thriller series. There will be a $1000 to win for the feature winner of the class with the most cars. There will also be a $1000 to win in the Heartland Racing Association Wingless Sprint A feature. Do not miss this exciting event with racing starting at 7:30pm.
