Bickett Blasts Rapid Speedway Sprint Cars

(August 5, 2005–Rock Rapids, IA) You never want to leave a race at Rapid Speedway until you see the checkered flags waving, because if you do, you may be surprised by the winner. That could have been the case as Ryan Bickett made his move to the lead of the sprint car feature with only two laps to go and drive into victory lane for the first time at the speedway of the season.
Jesse Drost took the lead of the race at the drop of the green followed by Bickett. With one lap counted, Butch Hanssen took third from Justin Jacobsma in turn three. Jody Rosenboom took fourth from Jacobsma one lap later.
The yellow flag made an appearance on lap six when Rob Danielson’s ill engine erupted in smoke and flames. Danielson was unharmed but parked the #46.
On the restart, Dusty Ballenger took fifth from his father, Steve Ballenger in turn two. At this point, Hanssen and Bickett were swapping second place as it appeared Drost was driving into the sunset. On lap nine, Rosenboom and Dusty Ballenger started thier swapping of fourth place that would continued all the way to the checkereds. In the closing laps, Bickett started to reel in Drost and caught him for the race winning pass on lap 16.
Bickett scored the win ahead of Drost. Dusty Ballenger came from eleventh to third with Rosenboom fourth and Randy Rosenboom fifth.
He had won track championships and many features in the sportsmen division at Rapid Speedway, but never a win in the Late Model Stock Car class. That changed as Rick VanderWeide scored the win in their 15 lap feature. Darrin Korthal came back from a flat tire to take second with third going to Doug Brinkhous. Don Gerritsen JR was fourth with Colter Deutsch fifth.
The crowd erupted during the sportsmen feature as the lead swapped on lap five. One lap before that, Jamie Tiszen rim rode into second as he passed Billy Sprock. On the fifth lap, it was diamond move that gave Tieszen the run into the lead as he passed Chris Huisman in turn two. Tieszen took his #5x into victory lane for the second week in a row. Huisman was second with Sprock third. Fourth went to Jon DeBoer followed by Kevin Broesder in fifth.
Justin Arends led all 12 laps of the hobby stock feature to take his third win of the year. Mark VandenTop was second with third going to Marlo DeJager. Darrick VanderBrink barely nipped Jason DeBoer for fourth at the finish.
Daniel DeBeer took his #55 into victory lane for the second time of the season in the factory stock feature. Derrick Nordstom was second followed by Adam Jenniges and Ron McClure. Jared Nytroe was fifth.
