Wasmund Wheels to Rapid Speedway Win

(July 29, 2005–Rock Rapids, IA) After several inches of rain during the week, Rapid Speedway’s racing surface was smooth and fast. Those track conditions were the perfect ingredients for Dusty Wasmund as he won at Rapid Speedway in the sprint car feature for the first time.
Wasmund took the lead from pole-sitter Eric McGillivray at the drop of the green flag and quickly started to stretch his lead over the field. By the fourth circuit of the 18 lap event, Wasmund had lengthened his lead to over a half straightaway. On the move was Steve Ballenger as he took third from Gordy Vogelaar on lap two. Ballenger took second from McGillivray on lap six, but it would be negated as the caution flag waved for the #38 of Mitch Coburn as he slowed on the speedway.
Wasmund again stretched his lead as the green flag action resumed. McGillivray lost two positions on lap 14 when he slid high in turn two allowing Ballenger and Micah Schliemann to advance.
A green, white, checkered shoot out formed when the caution waved on the white flag lap. Wasmund would not be topped however as he took the win ahead of Ballenger and Schliemann. McGillivray took fourth with Vogelaar fifth.
Doug Brinkhous and Rick VanderWeide went door to door in the Late Model Stock Car feature for several laps. On the eleventh lap it was a slide job in the first turn that allowed Brinkhous to take the lead and drive to the victory. VanderWeide settled for second with third going to Darrin Korthals. Colter Deutsch was fourth with fifth going to Nick Beyenhof.
Jamie Tieszen led every lap of the sportsmen feature to take his third win of the year. Billy Sprock made several attempts at taking the top spot but settled for second. Third went to Jon DeBoer with Kevin Broesder and Greg Roemen rounding out the top five.
It took a borrowed race car but Marlo DeJager finally scored a win in the hobby stock feature. DeJager led all 12 laps to take home the trophy. Derrick VanderBrink pulled door to door with the leader several times but could not complete the pass. VanderBrink was second with Kevin Joachim third. Jason DeBoer was fourth with fifth going to Tracy Johnson.
Adam Jenniges took the win in the factory stock feature. Daniel DeBeer was second ahead of Jared Nytroe, Ron McClure and Perry Schneekloth.
Rapid Speedway races again this Friday night.
