Heser Hustles to first ever sprint car win

(July 22, 2005–Rock Rapids, IA) July 22 of 2005 will be a date that Casey Heser will never forget. After successfully racing in go-karts for years, the 16 year old Jackson, Minnesota native jumped into the 700 horsepower 360 sprint cars for 2005. On the eleventh night of his Rapid Speedway career, he took a sprint car to victory lane for the first time.
Heser took the early lead of the event, and by the sixth lap, had built an interval of 2.36 seconds between himself and second place Randy Rosenboom. As Heser entered lap traffic on the twelfth circuit, he found himself high and out of the groove, shrinking the interval to just half a second. That was the only mistake he would make though, as he drove flawlessly in the closing 6 laps to take the win. Rosenboom was second with third going to Dusty Ballenger as he passed Shawn Van Wyhe on the final lap. Van Wyhe crossed the line fourth with fifth going to Chase Wilson.
It was another first in the Late Model Stock Car feature as Don Gerritsen JR took the win. Gerritsen moved into the late model stock cars after racing in the sportsmen and hobby stocks in the past few year. Gerritsen was victorious in those classes and on this night, became a winner in the fastest stock car class. Gerritsen started fifth and moved his way up to second by lap five. On a resart with seven laps to go, Gerritsen made the move on leader Colter Deutsch in turn four and drove into the lead. Gerrtisen led the rest of the way to take his first win in the class at his hometown track. Deutsch was second with third going to Scott Overgaard. Darrin Korthals was fourth with fifth going to Don Grems.
Kevin Broesder finally broke into the win column on the season as he led every lap of the sportsmen feature to take the win. Chris Huisman was second with Greg Roemen third. Billy Sprock and Brad Winesburg rounded out the top five.
Jason DeBoer took his second win in a row and fifth of the season in the hobby stock feature event. DeBoer led all 12 laps of the race that went flag to flag. Kevin Joachim finished second with third going to Mark VandenTop. Nick Van Belle was fourth followed by Alicia Ahrendt.
