Ballenger takes Rapid Speedway Win

(July 1, 2005–Rock Rapids, IA) When his son’s engine went up in smoke while leading the feature event, it was Steve Ballenger coming to the front to take the victory.
Randy Droescher led the first 13 laps of the sprint car feature, but was under heavy pressure. On lap thirteen, Droescher and Jody Rosenboom were racing for the lead when Rosenboom looped his #6 in turn three. On the restart, Dusty Ballenger rim rode into the lead in turn four, but as he passed the flag stand, his engine expired drawing another caution.
Droescher again had the lead, but it was Steve Ballenger on the move on this restart. The two races off the second turn and banged wheels on the backstretch. Ballenger drove off while Droescher came to a halt with a broken front axle.
The only red flag of the night waved on the following restart when Doug Martens flipped on the exit of turn two.
Steve Ballenger led the rest of the way for his first win of the season. Gordy Vogelaar was a close second with third going to Jesse Drost. Mitch Runge came to finish fourth followed by Justin Jacobsma.
The late model stock car feature was decided by two feet at the finish line. Nick Beyenhof edged four time champion Darrin Korthals to take his first win on his hometown track in the late model stock car division. Korthals settled for second with third going to Rick VanderWeide. Don Gerritsen Jr was fourth and Chad Overgaard fifth.
Jamie Tieszen led all 10 laps of the sportsmen feature to take his second win of the year. Kevin Broesder took second with third going to Chris Huisman. Steve Eliason and Greg Roemen rounded out the top five.
Kevin Joachim scored win number two of the year by taking the win of the Hobby Stock feature. Marlo DeJager was second with Justin Arends following in thrid. Jason DeBoer and Derrick VanderBrink rounded out the top five.
It was Derrick Nordstrom in victory lane in the Factory Stock feature. Jared Nytroe was second.
