Jody Rosenboom Tops Rapid Speedway Sprint Cars

(June 18, 2004-Rock Rapids, IA) On what was a wild night of action, it was Jody Rosenboom taking his first win of the year in the sprint car feature. Brad Klaassen, Gregg Roeman and Kevin Joachim also took home trophies in Friday night's action.
Randy Droescher took the initial lead of the Sprint Car feature, but before one lap was in the books Steve Ballenger looped his #3 off turn two. With one lap counted the red flag came out when Brent Vonk tumbled in turn two. Vonk walked away unharmed, but was out of action for the night. The field was again slowed with two laps counted, and on that restart Dusty Ballenger and Steve Ballenger bumped on the front stretch drawing another red. Steve Ballenger was able to re-join the field while son, Dusty, was out of action.
On the restart things sorted out and the field began to race. Mike Sandvig took fourth from Jordan Martens on the restart with Jody Rosenboom taking second from Brandon Buysse. The caution was again displayed with three laps counted when Martens spun in turn two collecting Jake Peters in the #69R. Both those drivers went to the pits.
Racing again resumed and on the fifth lap of the event the race had a new leader. Rosenboom, using the high line, passed Droescher as they came off turn four. Rosenboom never looked back as he ran away to take his first win of the year. Droescher was second with Sandvig taking third. Brain Baker drove from twelfth to take fourth with Shawn Van Wyhe holding off Gordy Vogelaar for fifth. Justin Jacobsma won the "B" feature. Droescher, Steve Ballenger and Ben Van Vooren won the heat races.
In the Late Model Stock Car feature it was all Brad Klaassen as he jumped to the initial lead and paced the field. Klaassen led the entire distance to take his second win of the year and seventeenth of his career at Rapid Speedway. Scott Overgaard finished a close second with Mark DeBoer driving to third. Fourth went to Doug Brinkhous and Darwin Klaassen rounded out the top five. Overgaard and Brinkhous won the heat races.
Mike Forseth took the initial lead of the Sportsmen feature. With one lap counted, Anthony Mann charged into fifth as he passed Mel Elsberry. On the next lap, Mann took fourth from Chris Huismann as they raced off turn two, and then Mann drove by Kevin Broesder for third in turn four.
In the fifth lap it was the #6 of Rick Vander Weide driving into fifth as he overtook Huismann and then Vander Weide took fourth from Broesder in turn four. Huismann put himself back into the top five as he passed Broesder on lap seven. On the next lap, Mann drove past Nick Beyenhof to take over second and set his sights on the lead. The lead change came on lap ten when Mann drove past Forseth off turn two.
Mann led the final two laps for his first win of the season. Forseth took second just ahead of Beyenhof. Vander Weide took fourth with Huismann in fifth. Forseth and Billy Sprock took the victories of the heat races.
Thomas Doeden led from the start of the Hobby Stock feature to the white flag. During the final lap, Kevin Joachim started to challenge for the top spot entering turn one. Doeden wiggled just a bit in turn two. That was just enough for Joachim to take the lead and come to the checkered flag for his first career win. Doeden took second with Josh Klay third. Mark Vanden Top was fourth from tenth and Colter Deutsch was fifth. Joachim, Doeden and Klay won the heat races.
Rapid Speedway races again this Friday night.
