Hanssen Hauls for Rapid Speedway Win

(June 11, 2004 - Rock Rapids, IA) On a night of weather perfection, the racing action was great at Rapid Speedway.
Brent Vonk drove into the lead of the 18 lap sprint car feature as the race took the green flag. Ryan Bickett drove into third with just one lap counted as he overtook Terry Chester. Jesse Drost and Brain Baker followed past Chester on the next lap when something ill slowed Chester's #63. On the fourth lap the race slowed when Shawn Van Wyhe spun in turn two. On the restart, Butch Hanssen was moving as he drove into sixth then past Baker for fifth entering turn three. On the sixth lap Hanssen took fourth as he passed Drost in turn four. Third place went to Hannsen on lap eight when he passed Bickett. The yellow came out again on lap nine when Jody Rosenboom slowed on the track. Rosenboom was running in second place.
Hanssen wasted no time on the restart as the soon took the lead from Vonk. On the tenth lap the 27 of Drost ended his top ten run when he slowed with mechanical problems.
Hanssen led the rest of the way for this second win of the season. Vonk finished second. Gordy Vogelaar made a late race charge to take third with Bickett fourth. Steve Ballenger rounded out the top five. Rosenboom, Vogelaar and Bickett were the heat race winners.
Doug Brinkhous and Darrin Korthals battled to the finish of the Late Model Stock Car feature. Brinkhous took the lead on lap three and held off the defending champion for his first win of the year. Korthals settled for second for the second straight week. Darwin Klaassen took third ahead of Mark DeBoer. Heath Warntjes finished fifth. Brinkhous and DeBoer won the heat races.
Greg Roeman led all 12 laps of the Sportsmen feature to take his second straight win. Billy Sprock finished second holding off Don Gerritsen Jr. Anthony Mann came from seventh to take fourth with Kevin Broesder in fifth. Sprock and Broesder won the heat races.
Josh Klay was leading the Hobby Stock feature when the caution came out one lap into the race. Klay pulled in during the yellow handing the lead to Mike Deutsch. Deutsch led from there to the finish to take his first win since 2001. Mark Vanden Top took second after starting ninth. Dereck Vander Brink was third and fourth went to Troy Woelber. Justin Arends was fifth. Klay, Potter and Colter Deutsch won the heat races. Seth Stegenga won the "B" feature.
Rapid Speedway races again this Friday night.
