Hanssen grabs second win of season at Rapid Speedway.

(August 1, 2003-Rock Rapids, IA) Shawn Van Wyhe took the early race lead of the 360 sprint feature on Friday night. Randy Droescher passed Steve Ballenger on lap one for the second place. Butch Hanssen moved into the top five on lap three as he passed Jody Rosenboom for the position. Randy Rosenboom took third from Steve Ballenger on the third lap then one lap later Hanssen went by Steve Ballenger for fourth.
The leaders ran into lap traffic on lap six. Jody Rosenboom moved back into the top five on seven. Dusty Ballenger took fifth from Jody Rosenboom three laps later. The yellow flag waved with 11 laps counted when Lyle Howey III slowed on the track. Droescher gave up the second place on the restart with suspension trouble. The crew was able to repair the car and Droescher restarted in the back of the pack.
Hanssen took third second from Randy Rosenboom with five laps remaining then took the lead from Van Wyhe with four to go. Hanssen went on for his second Rapid Speedway win of the year. Dusty Ballenger came across the line second with Van Wyhe third. Randy Rosenboom finished fourth and fifth went to Dusty Zomer.
John DeGroot led the entire distance of the Late Model Stock Car feature to take home his second win of 2003. Chad Overgaard came from tenth and made a last lap pass to finish second. David Kruger was third and fourth went to Mark DeBoer from the twelfth starting spot. Mark Van Voorst finished fifth. The heat races were won by Van Voorst and Heath Warntjes.
Kevin Broesder took the lead of the Sportsmen feature race at the drop of the green flag. Rick Vander Weide took third from Evan DeHaan on lap four and then VanderWeide took second from Jeff Hoogendoorn on lap six. Mel Elsberry went into fourth on lap eight by DeHaan. Out front, Broesder led the entire distance for his first win since 1996. Vander Weide was second and Elsberry third. Hoogendoorn was fourth and fifth went to Anthony Mann. Broesder and DeHaan were victorious in the heat races.
The Hobby Stock feature went flag to flag with the #5 of Colter Deutsch taking the trophy. Bob DeBoer was second and third went to Jon DeBoer. Denton Potter came from ninth to take fourth and Larry Kracht came from eleventh to fifth. Deutsch, Bob DeBoer and Bobbi Kracht won the heat races. Troy Woelber won the consolation feature.
Rapid Speedway races again this Friday night.
