(July 26, 2002-Rock Rapids, IA) Mike McMahan and Mike Sandvig let the field of Sprint cars to the start of the 18 lap main event. McMahan got the edge and took the lead entering the first turn. Seven laps into the race, Johnn Cressman moved around Sandvig and into the second position. The front runners ran into lap traffic on the ninth circuit of the speedway. Thirteen laps into the race, Micah Schliemann had charged from the rear and moved into the top five as he overtook Randy Droescher.
Fourteen laps had been counted when the point leader, Buck Wilson, slowed with engine problems. On the restarting restart, Schliemann used the high side to move around Gordy Vogelaar and Sandvig to move into the top three.
McMahan was unstoppable out front as he took his first Rapid Speedway win. Cressman crossed the line second and Schliemann was third. Sandvig was fourth and Vogelaar rounded out the top five. "Three years I've been trying. I've placed everywhere but first," said McMahan after the win. "Last week I told my pit guys I'd never win here." Droescher and Shawn Van Wyhe won the heat races.
Mark Henry led every lap and held off a hard charging Darrin Korthals of give the Avenger #43 of Henry his first win of the year in Short Track Stock Car action. Korthals crossed the finish line just inches behind Henry to give the point leader a second place finish. John DeGroot finished third and Doug Brinkhous was fourth. Mark DeBoer finished fifth. Henry and DeGroot won the heat races.
After battling with mechanical problems and fire over the past weeks, Rick Vander Weide would lead all 12 laps of the Sportsmen feature to return to victory lane for his fourth win of the year. Todd Huisman made several bids at the top spot but crossed the line second. Anthony Mann took third place on a restart seven laps into the race and held on to finish there. Fourth went to Evan DeHaan and Scott Overgaard rounded out the top five. Brad Haas and Jeff Hoogendoorn scored wins in heat race action.
The Hobby Stock feature went 12 caution free laps and taking his second win in a row was Shannon VanWyk in the #KG95. Darwin Klaassen finished a close second. Don Gerritsen Jr. was third and Mark VandenTop was fourth. Bob DeBoer rounded out the top five. VanWyk, Gerritsen, and Dereck Van Der Brink won the heat races for the hobby stocks.
