Butch Hanssen showed why he leads in points and wins at Rapid Speedway as he turned in another stellar driving performance in capturing the Pam Oil/Valvoline/AC Delco/Lewis/Pepsi 360 sprint feature Friday night. Hanssen came from the fourth row to snatch the lead from Randy Droescher with five laps to go and went on to win the fifteen lap event, his fifth feature win of the year at the track. Micah Schliemann came from the fifth row to take second late in the race and found himself on Hanssens rear nerf bar when a caution bunched the field with two laps to go. But it was Hanssen getting a good jump on the restart and leading the final laps to take the win by two car lengths over Schliemann. Chad Meyer was right behind in third followed by Gordy Vogelaar and last-row starter Chuck McGillivray.
Jay Noteboom ran second nearly the entire race until race-long leader Moose Schuldt slid off the first turn on the final lap, giving Noteboom his first feature win of the year at the track. Schuldt, whose performance was flawless up until the final lap, was also seeking his first win of the year but fell to last place at the checkered. Darrin Korthals finished second ahead of Wayne Kruger, Mike Noteboom and Rick Vander Weide.
Jesse Akkerman inherited the lead when race-long leader Bryan McKee dropped out on lap eight with over-heating problems and went on to score his second sportsman feature of the year. Second went to J.J. Zebell followed by Chad Overgaard, Russ Peterson and Jason DeBoer. Overgaard edged slightly ahead of DeBoer in their hotly contested point battle as Overgaard holds a slim two point lead going into next weeks season championships.
Denton Potter led all the way to win his first ever hobby stock feature. Potter took the win by four car lengths ahead of runner-up Marlo DeJager, while Shawn Jurrens, Doug Brinkhaus and Larry Kracht rounded out the top five.
