Martens, Steuerwald claim second wins at Lake County Speedway

(July 30, 2005–Madison, SD) Doug Martens and Matt Steuerwald each made their way into victory lane for the second time in 2005 at Lake County Speedway this past Saturday night.
The sprint car feature started off with a wild incident in turn one. The #8 of Lane Brenden and #101 of Chuck McGillivray banged wheels getting into the first turn and that sent both cars tumbling. The incident also collected Kevin Ingle, Dusty Ballenger and Daryl Reverts. All drivers were unharmed, but only Ballenger and Reverts were able to restart.
At the front of the pack, Doug Martens led the field around the speedway at speeds over 100 mph. Lap traffic began shuffling its way through the leaders only five laps into the race. Martens was pressured several times by Brad Nelson for the lead as Nelson would look to the inside of Martens in turn three. Martens would use the momentum off the fourth turn and hold onto the lead each lap. The best race on the speedway was for third through fifth as Cody Hansen, Ryan Bickett and Butch Hanssen each traded positions several times in the event.
At the line it was Martens over Nelson by an interval of 0.37 seconds. Cody Hansen was third with Butch Hanssen taking fourth ahead of Bickett.
In the late model stock car feature it was all Matt Steuerwald as he led all 16 laps to take his second win of the year. Jesse Akkerman had made his way into the top five but received a black flag on lap 10 when he crew requested the officials to do so due to mechanical problems on the #87.
Steuerwald took the win with plenty of side by side racing just behind him. Scott Overgaard was second with third going to Gary Brown Jr. Lee Schlumbohm was fourth ahead of Don Gerritsen Jr.
Mike Mcgillivray and Jamie Tieszen were battling for the lead of the sportsmen feature in the early going of the event. However, with one lap down, the #53 of Paul LeBahn came rocketing from third and into the lead as they exited turn four. Tieszen made several attempts to get back to the lead but could never do so as LeBahn scored his second win of the year. Tieszen was second ahead of McGillivray. Nick Bahr crossed the line fourth just ahead of Greg Roemen.
Chad Patch took thelead of the hobby stock feature from Dave Kennedy on a restart one lap into the race. Patch drove flawlessly to take his first win at Lake County Speeedway. Zeb Larson was second with third going to Lane Brenden. Justin LeBahn was fourth with fifth going to Aaron Penning.
Derrick Nordstrom continued his winning ways in the Factory Stocks as Todd Dozark did the same in the Deuces Wild.
