Drost Dominates Sprint Feature at Lake County

(July 2, 2005–Madison, SD) Jesse Drost led the entire distance of the sprint feature to take his first win at Lake County Speedway of the 2005 season, but the big headlines came from the late model stock car feature as one drivers season may have come to an end as another took his first win at the track.
Drost was folowed to the finish of the Sprint Car feature by Dusty Ballenger. Butch Hanssen was third with Cody Hansen coming from tenth to fourth and Brent Vonk drove from twelfth to take fifth.
Colter Deutsch, Chad Overgaard and Jesse Akkerman were racing three wide for the late model stock car feature lead for three laps. Then, Overgaard’s car turned into the front stretch wall and smashed into the cement. The car then rolled violently and came to a stop. The Terminator Chassis safety work did its job, as Overgaard climbed out of the destroyed car.
Akkermen led the rest of the way first his first ever win at Lake County Speedway. Gary Brown Jr made several attempts to the lead but settled for second. Ray Sveegen was third followed by Scott Overgaard and Matt Steuerwald.
A lot has changed since Nick Bahr was last a winner. Last time he won was in the 2003 season as he raced a Hobby Stock. Bahr has since spent over a year in Iraq and moved to the sportsmen class. On Saturday, Bahr would lead the majority of the race to take his first Sportsmen win. Paul LeBahn was second followed by Mike McGillivray. Greg Roemen was fourth and fifth went to Jamie Tieszen.
Zeb Larson took the Hobby Stock feature lead two laps into the event and went to his second win of the year. Aaron Penning was second and third went to Lane Brenden. Tony Guischer was fourth followed by Travis Morris.
John Billyboy took his first ever win as he muscled by Derrick Nordstrom on the final lap. Nordstrom was second and third went to Jeff Foster. Jared Nytroe and Dan Carsrun rounded out the top five.
Chris Scholl won his second deuces wild feature of the year. Travis Christensen, Todd Dozark, Glen Higgins and Justin Scarborough rounded out the top of the order.
