Ryan Bickett takes Lake County Win

By Shawn Neisteadt

(Madison, SD—May 14, 2005) After a thunderstorm cancelled the action one week earlier, teams and fans went back to Lake County Speedway on a chilly Saturday night to get back into the racing action.

Ryan Bickett paced all 18 laps of the sprint car feature for his first win of the year. Jesse Drost was the driver on the move as he raced from the fourth row to second place. Drost even made several bids for the lead, but was never able to get by Bickett. The final challenge for the lead came on the last lap when Drost went to the inside of Bickett on turn two. A lap the leaders split a lap car on the backstretch, however the slower traffic was to Bickett’s favor as he pulled back into the lead as they entered the final turn. Third place went to Lane Brenden in only his second ever start in a sprint car. Dusty Ballenger drove to a fourth place finish just ahead of Chuck McGillivray.

In an outstanding and crowd pleasing Late Model Stock Car feature, Jeremiah Jordahl held off Gary Brown, Jr. for the win. Jordahl took the initial lead of the race, but things were not easy for him. On the third lap of the race, Brown pulled into second and onto the back bumper of Jordahl. Brown, a former track champion and national champion worked all angles of Jordahl, but could not make the pass. Jordahl took the win, his first ever win in the Late Model Stock Car class. Brown was second with third going to Matt Steuerwald. Lee Schlumbohm was fourth followed by Don Gerritsen, Jr.

Steve Eliason looked like he had the field covered in the Sportsmen feature, but lady luck was not on his side. Eliason had his right front tire go flat on lap seven of the race which forced him to relinquish the lead. Kevin Spurgin took hold of the top spot and drove to his fiftieth career win at Lake County Speedway. Greg Roemen finished second ahead of Mike McGillivray. Jamie Tieszen was fourth with fifth going to Curt Ottoson.

Travis Morris led the start of the Hobby Stock future, but came under attack on lap four. On that lap, Aaron Penning made the move for and took the lead in turn one. Morris and Penning continued to swap the lead until the caution flag waved for a car slowing on the tack with a flat tire. Penning assumed the restart lead and led the rest of the distance for the win. Lane Brenden drove from eighth to second with third going to Tony Guischer. Justin LeBahn was fourth with Chad Patch fifth.

Dan Carsrud took the checkered flags in the Factory Stock feature. Derrick Lux, Derrick Nordstrom, Jared Nytroe and Jeff Foster rounded out the top five. A pass for the lead as the field came to the white flag was the winning move for Chris Scholl as he won the Deuces Wild feature. Todd Dozark was second with third going to John Howe. Travis Fiegen and Travis Christensen rounded out the top five.

Lake County Speedway is located just south of Madison, SD. The racing action heats up each Saturday night at 8.
