Rosenboom fights of Martens and Snow for first LCS Win.
By Shawn Neisteadt
April 30, 2005 Madison, SD -- With the wind chill in the single digits and snow in the air, Lake County Speedway opened the 2005 racing season Saturday night. In the flurry of events, Jody Rosenboom, Matt Steuerwald, Jamie Tieszen, Lane Brenden, Jared Nytroe and Todd Dozark each took a win.
Randy Droescher asserted himself as the driver to beat in the early laps of the Prostollo All-American Auto Mall Sprint Car feature. However, Jody Rosenboom ran close in toe as the Iceman paced the field. Rosenboom made the most of Droeschers slight bobble in lap traffic on the sixth lap to overtake the lead. Droescher slipped back to second and was soon challenged for that position by Doug Martens. The caution came out on the eighth lap when Ryan Bickett slowed on the track. In that caution period the left rear tire on Droeschers #24 went flat forcing Droescher to give up the second position.
Rosenboom ran a flawless race to take his first ever Lake County Speedway win. Martens took second just ahead of Brent Vonk. Jesse Drost and Butch Hanssen rounded out the top five. Drost drove to fourth from the twelfth starting position. Drost was upside down in the heat race when he and Chuck McGillivray tangled in the fourth turn. During that red flag in the heat race, a 10 minute snow shower passed over the speedway. At times, the snow was heavy enough to reduce visibility significantly.
Jeremiah Jordahl looked to have the car to beat at the beginning of the Sturdevants Late Model Stock Car feature, however that changed with one lap counted. The transmission of the #3J erupted and dropped out of the car on the front stretch. Fortunately the debris from Jordahls car was avoided by the rest of the field, however, Jordahls night came to an end.
Matt Steuerwald inherited the lead and drove to the win. Lee Schlumbohm finished just behind Steuerwald. Ray Sveegen crossed the line third followed by Chad Schettler and Don Bickett.
Jamie Tieszen fought off several challenges, but the defending champion took the feature win in the Sportsmen main event. Mike McGillivray made several challenges at the top spot but settled for second. Greg Roemen took third with Dustin Evink fourth. Paul LeBahn was fifth.
Lane Brenden took the championship in the 2004 season with the Hobby Stocks. Brenden started his defending of the title as well as he could as he scored the win in the Interlakes Sports Center Hobby Stock Feature. Chad Patch took second with Justin LeBahn, Aaron Penning and Tony Guischer following.
Jared Nytroe drove from fifth to first in the Culligan Factory Stock feature. The win was the first of the career for Nytroe. Derrick Nordstrom finished a close second with third going to Jeff Foster. Dan Carsrud and Jesse Larson rounded out the finishing field.
Todd Dozark started the Deuces Wild season with a bang as he took the win. Travis Christensen was second with third going to Tom Koster. Josh Van Engen took fourth ahead of Justin Scarborough.
Lake County Speedway races again this Saturday night at 8 PM. The track is located just south of Madison, SD.
