McGillivray takes win in wild sprint feature at Lake County

(Madison, SD—August 7, 2004) The Sprint Car feature on Saturday Night had more twists and turns than a mountain road. When all was settled, it was Chuck McGillivray taking his second win of the year.
Mitch Coburn took the initial lead of the sprint car feature with John Kaiser in second. The caution came out on the second lap when Jesse Drost slowed on the speedway. On the restart, it was Cody Hansen slowing with a flat tire.
On the ensuing restart, Kaiser took the lead from Coburn. On the third lap it was Mitch Runge driving past Coburn and into second. Traffic became and issue for the leaders on the ninth lap.
The wildest moment of the race happened with eleven laps counted. Second place runner, Runge, slowed on the speedway. As he was pulling to the pits, the fourth place car, Brad Nelson spun around on the backstretch. Nelson brought out the caution to slow the field. Kaiser did not get slowed in time and hit the backstretch wall. Kaiser, who was the leader broke the front of his car and was out of the race. Runge would have been the leader, but his stumbling engine ended his race. That gave the lead back to Coburn.
A multitude of events happened on the restart. Fourth place car, Jody Rosenboom blew his engine on the start. Doug Martens, who was fifth had a steering failure and the result was Dusty Ballenger and Brent Vonk tangling. Martens and Rosenboom took their rides to the pits.
On the restart it was McGillivray taking the lead and going to the win from there. Randy Droescher was second wit Coburn in third. Cody Hansen was fourth with fifth going to Vonk.
The Late Model Stock Car feature has the crowd going as Rick Goth came from ninth to his first win of the year. Mark DeBoer charged from tenth to second with third going to Gary Brown Jr. Lee Schlumbohm was fourth and Scott Freet took fifth.
Jamie Tieszen took the win Friday night in Rock Rapids, and backed it up with a win Saturday night at Lake County Speedway. Tieszen took the lead from Mike McGillivray eight laps into the race. McGillivray finished second with third going to Paul LeBahn. Kevin Spurgin finished fifth.
In a non-stop 12 lap Hobby Stock feature, it was Kevin Prussman taking the lead on lap two and holding on in a fierce battle on the final lap for his first career win. Lane Brenden took second from his starting spot of seventh. Justin LeBahn was third with Tony Guischer fourth and fifth went to Aaron Penning.
Jeremey Fedeler continued his streak in the Wild Ones feature as he won his seventh win of the year. David Christensen was second with Jared Nytroe third and fourth going to Nick Lewis.
Dave Kennedy led the final 300 feet of the Deuces Wild feature to take his first win. Chris Scholl led from the start to the final lap to finish second. Third went to Chad Larson with fourth going to Myron Prussman. John Howe was fifth.
Lake County Speedway races again this Saturday night.
