The Iceman takes win at Lake County, Plimpton gets first of Season

(July 17, 2004—Madison, SD) Another night of exciting action went in the books this past Saturday night at Lake County Speedway.
Randy Droescher was the dominant car in the sprint car feature as he led all 15 laps of the event to score his second win of the year. Doug Martens drove the Tom Wilson car to a second place finish. Mitch Runge was the fastest car in the closing laps as he charged to a third place finish with Brad Nelson fourth. Brent Vonk, the current point leader, rounded out the top five. Droescher and Martens won the heat races.
Kent Plimpton took home his first trophy of the season as the topped the field in the Late Model Stock Car feature. Perry Tschetter drove into second ad the drop of the green, but it was Rick Goth overtaking that spot on the final lap. Tschetter drove to a strong third place finish. Matt Steuerwald finished in fourth with Gary Brown Jr. charging from the back of the pack for a fifth place finish. Mark DeBoer had a strong top five until the final lap when his right rear tire exploded dropping him to twelfth at the finish. Plimpton and Goth won the heat races.
Mike McGillivray had been very successful at Lake County Speedway. In fact, he is a two time Hobby Stock champion there at the speedway. However, McGillivray moved into the sportsmen class this year and on Saturday, he took his first ever win in that division. McGillivray took the lead at the halfway point of the 12 lap event from Matt Ayres and drove to the win from there. Don Gerritsen Jr drove to a second place after winning the week before. Kevin Spurgin drove from sixth to third with Nick Beyenhof charging from ninth to fourth. Ayres, who led the opening half of the race, took fifth. Jamie Tieszen and Beyenhof were the winners of the heat races.
In a caution free, flag to flag, Hobby Stock feature it was Lane Brenden driving from seventh to his fourth win of the year. Kevin Prussman had a great run and took second with third going to Tony Guischer. Colter Deutsch and Andy Hansen rounded out the top five. Deutsch, Guischer and Travis Morris won the heat races.
Jeremey Fedeler matched his car number with his fifth win of the year in the wild ones. Greg Jung took second. The race of the feature was for third as David Christensen edged Jared Nytroe for third. Jung took the win of the heat race.
Travis Christensen took his first win as he grabbed the checkereds in the Deuces Wild feature. Adam Hoefert was second with third going to Dave Kennedy. Chad Larson came from eleventh to take fourth with fifth going to Todd Dozark.
