The Iceman takes Lake County Win, Great Battle to finish in Late Models Stock Cars

By Shawn Neisteadt

(June 12, 2004 - Madison, SD) Not only was the racing wild Saturday Night, but the lightning show just to the north of the speedway was also spectacular. Fortunately the weather all moved to the north of the track allowing an exciting night of racing to be completed.

Randy Droescher took the lead of the Sprint Car feature as the event began. Brent Vonk drove into fifth with just one lap counted as he took over the spot from Brandon Rokusek. Ryan Bickett drove into third on the third lap when he passed Mitch Runge. One lap later, Chuck McGillivray took fifth from Vonk. Cody Hansen drew a caution on lap seven when he slowed on the speedway. Brad Nelson also tagged a barrier at that time ending his race.

On the restart, Bickett drove past Daryl Reverts for second as McGillivray took fourth from Runge. McGillivray then took third from Reverts on the following lap. All of this action was going on behind Droescher, as he continued to lead. The yellow was again displayed with nine laps counted for Mitch Runge who had slowed on the track.

One lap after the restart, Vonk, Reverts and Jody Rosenboom were three-wide on the front stretch. As they entered the first turn, Reverts began to flip. The red flag was displayed and Reverts was unharmed.

On the restart with just 5 laps to go, Rosenboom took third from McGillivray and Hanssen charged past Vonk for fourth. Rosenboom then took second from Bickett off turn two on lap 12. Rosenboom was running down the leader, but Droescher had the Ethanol Products #24 singing as he took his first win of the year. Rosenboom came from eighth to take second. Hanssen came from tenth to third with Bickett fourth. Chuck McGillivray was fifth. Reverts and Rokusek won the heat races.

The Late Model Stock Car feature brought the crowd cheering and to their feet. Mark DeBoer drove from ninth to the lead of the 15 lap feature in just six laps. Rick Goth was fast and drove from seventh and began to challenge for the lead with three to go. Goth ran on the outside with DeBoer using the low line around the track. Goth then took the lead off turn two. The race was far from over as those two took the white flag side-by-side. Goth led the race into the final set of turns, but missed the groove by just a few inches allowing DeBoer to drive off turn four in the lead for his fourth win of the year. Goth settled for second with Rob Anderson third. Fourth went to Gary Brown Jr. and Don Bickett took fifth. DeBoer and Matt Steuerwald won the heat races.

The Sportsmen feature was wild to say the least. The #12 of Nick Abraham flipped on the front stretch with just two laps to go. There were several other incident throughout the event, but when it was all said and done, the #5x of Jamie Tieszen had his third win of the year. Paul LeBahn took second with Matt Ayres third. Brad Winesberg took fourth but hit the wall at the finish. The impact blew the roof off the car. Fifth place went to Paul Dahl. LeBahn and Mike McGillivray won the heat races.

Colter Deutsch drove from the ninth starting position to the lead of the Hobby Stock feature on a restart just four laps into the race. Deutsch led from there to the end for his second win of the year. Lane Brenden came from eighth to take second with Steve Eliason third. Fourth went to Aaron Penning and Andy Hansen rounded out the top five. Eliason, Brenden and Brett Lease won the heat races.

It was all Jeremy Fedeler in the Wild Ones feature event as he scored his second win of the year. Greg Jung was second with David Christensen and Brian Heiman following. Fedeler also won the heat race.

Chad Larson came back with a vengeance one week after losing an engine. Larson took his third win of the year in the Deuces Wild feature. Jordan Heiman was second with third going to Dave Kennedy. Larry Koster and Myron Prussman rounded out the top five. Larson and Chris Scholl were victorious in the heat races.
