Bickett Wins at Lake County; Schwader takes Bob Beck Memorial Dash for Cash

By Shawn Neisteadt

(August 23, 2003-Madison, SD)  The final event of Saturday night's program was a very special event to honor a long time friend and supporter of the racing family, Bob Beck.  The special dash for cash started 10 Hobby Stocks and went a distance of 10 laps for a winner's claim of $500.  Lane Brenden took the lead at the drop of the green, but lost that lead before the first lap was counted to Jason Schwader.  Only four laps into the race, Jeff Beck was taking second as he had started in ninth.  The race began to heat up, but was interrupted when Mike McGillivray spun on lap five.  On the restart, Beck took to the low side of Schwader.  Beck, a two time champion, and Schwader, a rookie, raced door to door and eventually Schwader pulled back into the lead.  Schwader fended off all challenges and went on to the win.  Beck took second and third went to Brenden.

Rob Anderson snagged the initial lead of the Late Model Stock Car feature.  Don Bickett was on the charge though as he took his #17 into the top spot with one lap counted in turn three.  The red waved on the next lap.   JJ Zebell slammed the turn one wall and Chuck Harming flipped in turn three.  Harming's night was over, but he walked away unharmed.  The race soon heated up, as did tempers.  On the seventh lap, Mark DeBoer passed Gary Brown.  As they continued on, there was heavy contact between the two machine and they both stopped with flat tires on lap eight.  After more action, the #22 of Brown was disqualified.  DeBoer received new tires on the pit stop and returned to action.

On the track it was Bickett stomping the field for his second win of the year.  Anderson was second and Rick Goth took third.  JJ Zebell was fourth and fifth went to DeBoer as he charged forward after the incident.

Just as he had done the night before at Rapid Speedway, Nick Beyenhof topped the field in the Sportsmen feature.  Don Gerritsen Jr was second.  Billy Prouty finished third and fourth went to Brad James.  Daryl Reverts took fifth.

Chad Anderson started sixth in the Hobby Stock feature and races into the lead on lap four.  Anderson, a rookie, led the rest of the distance for his first career win in Hobby Stocks.  Jeff Beck came from eighth to take second and third went to Mike McGillivray.  Nick Bahr crossed the line fourth and fifth went to Scott Borkowski.

Brian Heiman took the lead of the Wild Ones feature on the third lap and went on for the win.  Leslie Arnett came from the rear to take second and third went to Derrick Nordstrom.  In the Dueces Wild feature the #29 of Matt Scholl was on a rail as he took his first win of the season.  Chad Larson was second and Dave Kennedy finished third.

Lake County hosts a full program with Sprint Cars returning next Saturday night.
