Bickett Rockets to Forth Lake County Win; Goth Grabs First of Year
By Shawn Neisteadt
(July 19, 2003-Madison, SD) Cody Hansen led the first lap of the NMRA 360 sprint car feature Saturday night. That lead lasted until Ryan Bickett took over the top spot one lap into the race off turn two. On the same lap, Chuck McGillivray took third from Randy Droescher off turn four. Three laps into the race, Joe Riedel took fourth from Droescher.
The race was six laps old when McGillivray took second from Hansen. One lap later, Riedel continued his charge as he took third from Hansen. Out front though, Bickett was checked out and taking the checkereds for the fourth time this year. McGillivray was second and Riedel third. Hansen crossed the line fourth and Droescher was fifth.
Matt Steuerwald was the early race leader of the Late Model Stock Car feature. Three laps into the 15 lap event, Rick Goth took second from Al Barnhardt. Mark DeBoer charged into the top five on lap four as he passed JJ Zebell. DeBoer continued to move up in the field as he took fourth from Barnhardt on lap six and third from Perry Tschetter on lap nine. Steuerwald made a slight bobble on lap ten and that allowed Goth to take the lead off turn four.
The racing was hot as the white flag flew. DeBoer had moved into second and was challenging Goth for the lead. The cars raced fender on fender, and at the finish line Goth took the win over DeBoer. Steuerwald was third and Tschetter fourth. Zebell crossed the line fifth.
Daryl Green took the lead on lap six of the Sportsmen feature from Richard Holbrook. Holbrook tried to retake the top spot on the opposite end of the track, but instead, the top two cars made contact and Green flipped in turn four. Green's car was heavily damaged and out for the night, but he walked away. Track official disqualified Holbrook for rough driving. That handed the lead to Josh Schmidt, but Schmidt pulled to the infield before the restart as his car had also sustained considerable damage.
Kevin Spurgin then inherited the lead and went on for this third win of the year. Jamie Tieszen came from eleventh to take second and third went to Billy Prouty. Daryl Reverts finished fourth and Jeremiah Jordahl was fifth.
It took five laps for Mike McGillivray to come from the twelfth starting position to the lead of the Hobby Stock feature. McGillivray, the defending champion, went on for his fourth win of the season. Steve Eliason was second and third went to Chad Anderson. Justin Olson was fourth and Andy Hanson took fifth.
Brian Heiman took home his first trophy of the year after winning the Wild Ones feature. Leslie Arnett took second followed by Greg Jung. Fourth went to Jeremy Fedeler and Derrick Nordstrom was fifth.
Myron Prussman took the lead of the Deuces Wild feature on the final lap and went on for his third win of the year. Dave Kennedy was second and third went to Shawn Callies. Terry Eischens was fourth and Chad Anderson rounded out the top five.
Lake County Speedway races again this Saturday night.
