Vonk the victor at Lake County; DeBoer celebrates 100th win

(July 12, 2003-Madison, SD) Mark DeBoer began the night with 99 overall career wins, the night ended with a celebration for the Late Model Stock Car driver as he hit the century mark.
Al Barnhardt took the lead of the Late Model Stock Car feature at the drop of the green flag. Scott Freet settled into third, but DeBoer took that spot on lap three coming off turn two. Exactly one lap later DeBoer took second from Chuck Harming. On the fifth lap Barnhardt lost the lead as DeBoer charged into the top spot. There was no looking back from there on for the Ellsworth, Minnesota driver as he took his third win of the year at Lake County Speedway and his 100th total career win. Barnhardt was second and third went to Freet. Gary Brown, Jr. was fourth and Perry Tschetter took fifth.
There was a lot of celebration after the Sprint Car feature as well. Brent Vonk led all 15 laps to take his first win ever at Lake County and the second win of his career. Ryan Bickett picked up three spots in the closing laps to take second and third went to Randy Droescher. Doug Martens was fourth and Cody Hansen rounded out the top five. The race was red flagged on lap nine when 51 year old rookie, Butch Evink tangled with the backstretch wall and flipped in turn three. Evink walked away unharmed.
It was not a good night to be the leader of the Sportsmen feature. Billy Prouty had the early race lead, but spun out on lap two. That gave the lead to Richard Holbrook, but Holbrook lost the handle of his car on lap five and spun. That handed the lead to Daryl Reverts and he would not make the same mistake as he led the rest of the way and took he first win of the season. Rick Vander Weide came from tenth to second and Jeremiah Jordahl finished third. Kevin Spurgin was fourth and fifth went to Jamie Tieszen.
Mike McGillivray took the lead of the Hobby Stock feature at the halfway point and the defending champion went on to take his third win of the year. Kiggins was second just ahead of Nick Bahr. Justin Olson was fourth and Scott Borkowski rounded out the top five.
Brett Lease picked up his second win of the season in Wild Ones action. Brian Heiman was second and third went to Jason Oas. Leslie Arnett was fourth and Skeeter Hansen rounded out the top five.
Travis Stunes picked up his first win by leading every lap of the Deuces Wild feature. Dave Kennedy was second and third went to Shawn Callies. Travis Christensen was fourth and Myron Prussman was fifth.
Lake County Speedway races again this Saturday night.
