Double features to make up for Mother Nature at Lake County Speedway

(July 5, 2003-Madison, SD) Mother nature sent a storm the way of Lake County Speedway on Friday night forcing part of the racing program to spill into Saturday's program.

The night started with seven laps to go in the Sportsmen feature from Friday night. Jamie Tieszen came from third on the restart to take his second win of the season. Joey Hofer finished second and third went to Matt Ayres. Daryl Green was fourth and Kevin Spurgin took fifth.

The first Late Model Stock Car feature of the night had JJ Zebell out front and untouchable as he led the entire 15 lap distance for his second win of the year. Rick Goth took second and third went to Gary Brown, Jr. Don Bickett took fourth and Matt Steuerwald was fifth.

Joe Riedel was hooked up and hauling as he led all 15 laps of the first sprint car feature of the night to take his third win of the season. Chuck McGillivray was a close second and third went to Ryan Bickett. Kim Muntefering was fourth and Josh Holt rounded out the top five.

The red flag waved on the start of the second feature for the sprint cars as Kim Muntefering took a wild ride in turn four. When the race restarted, Brent Vonk took the lead. On lap two, McGillivray passed Ryan Bickett for fourth. Then McGillivray took the third spot from Josh Holt on the opposite end of the track. Seven laps into the race, McGillivray continued to charge forward as he took second from Randy Droescher. Vonk ran into lap traffic on the seventh lap.

The caution waved on lap 10 when Mitch Coburn slowed in turn four. On the resulting restart, Bickett took fourth from Holt. On the eleventh lap, McGillivray shot under Vonk entering turn one and took the lead. McGillivray went to take his second win of the year and 54th of his career. Vonk was second and Droescher finished third. Bickett crossed the line fourth and Holt was fifth.

Mark DeBoer took the early lead of the Late Model Stock Car feature as the green flag waved. Gary Brown, Jr took second on lap three. Those top two cars battled near each other until Brown slid to the top spot off four on lap four. DeBoer tried everything to get back to the lead, but Brown was too strong as he picked up his third win of the year. DeBoer was second followed by Chad Overgaard from the eleventh starting position. Don Bickett was fourth from tenth and Rob Anderson rounded out the top five.

Jamie Tieszen cam from the fifteenth starting position and took the lead on the final lap of the Sportsman feature to take his second feature win of the night and third of the season. Jeremiah Jordahl led at the white flag but settled for second. Mike Husman led early in the race and finished third. Josh Schmidt took fourth and Billy Prouty was fifth.

Colter Deutsch, the defending National NMRA Hobby Stock Champion, made his first appearance of the season at Lake County Speedway, and left with the trophy. Deutsch came from thirteenth to the lead on lap seven and went on for the win. Steve Eliason finished second ahead of Jeff Beck. Nick Bahr was fourth and Chad Anderson took fifth.

Lelsie Arnett took the lead from Tara Johnson on lap two of the Wild Ones feature and went on for her fifth win of the year. Jeff Brown as second and third went to Jeremy Fedeler. Brett Lease took fourth and fifth went to Brian Heiman.

The moment of the race for the Deuces Wild feature was on lap five when the #21K of Dave Kennedy rolled in turn four, landed on his wheels, and restarted. The win went to Myron Prussman. Jeremiah Bethke was second and Chad Larson was third. Fourth went to Travis Stunes and Jim Klutman was fifth.

Lake County Speedway races again on Saturday night.
