Orange Peeler Gang Strikes: Don and Ryan Bickett win

(June 28, 2003-Madison, SD) Cody Hansen took the early lead of the 360 sprint feature, but before the first lap went into the books, Ryan Bickett was the leader. The racing in the top five was hot and heavy as Hansen, Joe Riedel and Chuck McGillivray all battled. The battle ended on lap five when the yellow flag waved as Brad Nelson slowed on the track with mechanical problems. During that caution, mechanical problems forced Riedel to give up his top five position and pull to the infield.
Bickett was untouchable out front as "The Rocket" took his third feature win of the Lake County season. McGillivray came from sixth to second. Hansen finished third followed by Kim Muntefering. Brandon Rokusek crossed the line fifth.
A different class, yet the winner had the same last name. Don Bickett led the final 13 laps of the Late Model Stock Car feature for his first win of the year. This was the second time the father-son combination had won on the same night. They are the only father-son pair to ever complete this feat. "That makes it pretty nice," said Don Bickett about winning on the same night as his son. "We did it one year, but its been a while."
Bickett took the lead from Al Barnhardt on lap two. Mark DeBoer moved into second on lap three and began to chase the leader. The two pulled side by side on lap nine, but on lap 10, DeBoer pulled off the track with mechanic troubles. Bickett went unchallenged to the checkereds from that point. Matt Steuerwald was second with Gary Brown, Jr. third. Scott Freet came from tenth to fourth and Rick Goth came from ninth to take fifth.
Daryl Green took the early lead of the Sportsmen 12 lap "A" feature. Green led until Kevin Spurgin overtook the top spot entering the first turn on lap 10. Spurgin went on to take his 42nd career win at Lake County Speedway. Jamie Tieszen came from ninth to second and Matt Ayres came from tenth to take third. Green crossed the line in fourth and Daryl Reverts rounded out the top five.
Travis Johnson picked up his first career win in the Hobby Stock feature. Kevin Prussman was second and third went to Scott Borkowski. Jeff Beck was fourth and fifth went to Mike McGillivray.
Jeff Brown took the lead one lap into the Wild Ones "A" feature and went on for his first career win. Jeremy Fedeler was second and third went to Brian Heiman. Derrick Nordstrom was fourth and fifth went to Leslie Arnett.
Jeremiah Bethke came from eighth to take his second straight Deuces Wild feature win. Chad Larson was second and third went to Dave Kennedy. Mike Kiggins crossed the finish fourth and Myron Prussman rounded out the top five.
Lake County Speedway will race on Friday the fourth with a huge fireworks display after the races and then race again on Saturday night. All six classes will race each night with the green flag dropping at 8 pm.
