Freet wins at Lake County Speedway

(June 21, 2003-Madison, SD) Matt Steuerwald took the early lead of the NMRA Late Model Stock Car 15 lap feature on Saturday night. Nine laps into the race, Gary Brown, Jr. passed Perry Tschetter for third place. Brown then set his sights on the #88 of Al Barnhardt. Barnhardt lost second place to Brown on lap 11. However, the yellow flag soon waved and as it did Brown took his #22 to the infield with a flat tire.
On the resulting restart, Don Bickett moved into the third position. With two laps remaining, Steuerwald, Scott Freet and Bickett went three wide for the lead. Steuerwald slipped back a few position while Freet became the new leader just ahead of Bickett. The race was far from over though. On the final lap, Perry Tschetter rocketed past Freet in turn two. Freet got the better run on the other in of the speedway taking him across the checkereds first. Tschetter was second with JJ Zebell third. Rob Anderson came from the back to take fourth and Steuerwald was fifth. Bickett and Steuerwald won the heat races.
Randy Droescher took the early lead of the Sprint Car feature, but had problems on the opening lap. Entering turn three, the engine quit on the #24 sending Droescher into the wall and flipping. The car was damaged, but Droescher was unharmed. Chuck McGillivray took the lead on the restart and went on for career win 53 at Lake County. Ryan Bickett was second and third went to Cody Hansen. Joe Riedel was scored fourth as Kim Muntefering substituted in the #11JR.
Three laps into the Sportsman feature, the lead was up for grabs as three cars battle side by side out front. Entering the third turn, Jeremiah Jordahl broke ahead and into the lead. Jordahl led the rest of the way for his first win of the season. Josh Schmidt finished second. Rick VanderWeide came from twelfth to take third. Matt Ayres was fourth followed by Jamie Tieszen. Jordahl, Tieszen, and Daryl Reverts were winners in heat race action. The "B" feature went to Billy Prouty.
The Hobby Stock went 12 clean and green laps and checking out from the field was the #1x of Aaron Penning. Penning took the win, which was the second of his career. Scott Borkowski was second and third went to Justin Olson. Jeff Beck crossed the line fourth and fifth went to Lane Brenden. Curt Ottoson won the "B" feature. Penning, Olson and Beck were winners of the heat races.
Jeremy Fedeler made the late race moves to pick up the win in the Wild Ones feature. Leslie Arnett was second and third went to Greg Jung. Tara Johnson was fourth and fifth went to David Christensen. Jung and Brett Lease won the heat races.
Jeremiah Bethke came from the fifth row to take the win of the Deuces Wild feature. Chad Larson came from seventh to take second and third was Jim Klutman charging from the eleventh starting spot. Art Cagney was fourth and fifth went to Shawn Callies. Bethke, Myron Prussman and Matt Scholl won the heat races.
Lake County Speedway races again this Saturday night. A special Independence Weekend is planned for July 4th and 5th. Lake County will race on both nights.
