Bickett Rockets to Lake County Sprint Win

(May 31, 2003-Madison, SD) Eric McGillivray sat on the pole for the NMRA 360 Sprint Car feature, but at the drop of the green it was Ryan Bickett grabbing the lead. Chuck McGillivray moved into second on the first lap. Mitch Runge took third away from Joe Riedel with one lap counted. On the fourth lap, Riedel slowed on the speedway and pulled off the track. Bickett entered lap traffic only five laps into the race. While battling through the traffic on lap nine, Dusty Wasmund took over fourth from Eric McGillivray.
Bickett led all 15 laps of the flag-to-flag event to grab his second win of the season. Chuck McGillivray was second followed closely by Runge. Wasmund was fourth and Eric McGillivray took fifth. The heat races were won by Bickett and Riedel.
Chuck Harming took the early lead of the Late Model Stock Car feature. Defending track champion, Gary Brown, slowed with a flat tire on lap two to bring out the caution. Racing soon resumed and on the fifth lap Mark DeBoer moved into the to five by taking the position from Perry Tschetter. On lap six, Matt Steuerwall challenged Harming for the lead, but Harming was able to hold on to the top spot. On the seventh lap, Steuerwald got a little out of shape as he exited turn four. The slight mistake allowed Rob Anderson to take second. Rick Goth and DeBoer also advanced forward from the Steuerwald mistake.
Eight laps into the race. Goth lost his third spot as DeBoer continued to charge forward. Anderson then fell victim of DeBoer on lap ten. On the eleventh lap of the race, the lead changed into the hand of DeBoer as he went around Harming entering turn three. DeBoer never looked back as he grabbed his second win of the season. Harming finished a career best in the class with second. Anderson was third followed by Goth. Brown came back to take fifth. Brown and Don Bickett won the heat races.
The red flag waved on lap six of the sportsmen feature when the #8 of Cody Brown flipped in turn three. Brown walked away unharmed. Kevin Spurgin took the lead from Daryl Green on the last lap. Spurgin, the defending champion, held on for the win. Green took second and third went to Jamie Tieszen. Josh Schmidt took fourth and Matt Ayres rounded out the top five. Spurgin and Richard Holbrook took the heat race wins.
Scott Borkowski led every lap of the Hobby Stock feature to grab the win. Steve Eliason came from eighth to finish second. Mike McGillivray charged from ninth to third. Justin Olson finished fourth filling in for Jeff Beck. Nick Bahr crossed the line fifth. Eliason, McGillivray and Walter Kiggins won the heat races.
Leslie Arnett led every lap of the Wild Ones feature to give the defending champion her second straight win. Brian Heiman was second and third went to Jeremy Fedeler. Brett Lease was fourth and fifth went to Greg Jung. Arnett and Fedeler won the heat races.
Shawn Callies led every lap of the Deuced Wild feature to take his second straight win. Dennis Martin was second and Chad Larson took third. Fourth went to Erik Kludt and Matt Scholl rounded out the top five. Martin and Larson won the heat races.
