Reidel Returns to Victory Lane

By Shawn Neisteadt

(June 15, 2002-Madison, SD)  Joe Riedel and Randy Droescher led the large field of NMRA 360 Sprints to the drop of the green flag for the 15 lap main event.  Entering the first turn, Riedel edged out Droescher for the top spot.  Droescher made several attempts to pass Riedel, but would never be able to complete the pass.  On lap four, Mike McMahan moved into the fourth position by passing Bryan Dobesh.  McMahan and Dobesh soon passed Kory Rawstern when Rawstern's #4k broke loosed exiting turn four.

Twelve laps were in the books when Dobesh made his way by McMahan for third.  One lap later, Dobesh passed Droescher for the second spot.  McMahan took third from Droescher on the same lap.

With the white flag in the air, Dobesh quickly reeled in Riedel, but was unable to make the pass off the fourth turn.  Riedel led all 15 laps to claim his first win of the season.  Dobesh finished second with McMahan in third.  Fourth went to Droescher and Kim Muntefering rounded out the top five.  "I knew he was going to be back there," said Riedel, pilot of the Randall Funeral Home #11, on Dobesh after the race.  Heat race wins went to Dobesh and Rawstern.

As the green flag fell on the Short Track Stock Car feature, JJ Zebell rocketed from the second row into the lead.  One lap had been completed when the yellow flag waved for Jeff Machovsky and as he slowed on the front stretch.  Gary Brown moved into the top five on lap four after starting eighth.  On the next lap, Rick Goth took second place from Scott Freet.  Exiting the fourth turn on lap seven, Goth pulled his Borrowed Bucks #90 past Zebell and claimed the lead.

Goth was untouchable on his way to his second Lake County Speedway feature win of the season.  Zebell edged out Brown for the runner up position.  Fourth went to Freet.  Chris Ellingson finished fifth.  Heat race wins went to Zebell and Freet.

Brad James led all 12 laps of the Nordstrom's Sportsmen feature to take his second win of the year.  Jaime Tieszen finished second.  Kevin Spurgin charged from twelfth to take third.  Josh Schmidt made his way from eighth to take fourth.  Finishing fifth and qualifying for the Nordstrom's Pit Stop Challenge Race was Dustin Evink.  Tieszen, Mark Janke, and Richard Holbrook took wins in heat race action.

Justin Olson took the early lead of the NMRA Hobby Stock feature.  Darren Duffy took the top spot on lap two and held the lead until Jeff Beck claimed the top spot on lap six.  Beck, a two time and defending track champion, led the second half of the feature to take his first win of the season.  Justin Lebahn finished second followed by Duffy.  Fourth place went to Mike McGillivray and Rick Wibeto rounded out the top five.  The Hobby Stock "B" feature was won by Josh Lamer.  Heat race wins went to Beck, Lebahn and Kevin Spurgin driving for Adam Thielbar.

Chad Von Eye led the entire distance of the FWD Street Stock feature to claim his first win at Lake County Speedway.  Leslie Arnett challenged for the top spot before a flat tire ended her run at the win.  Second place went to Jeremy Fedeler with Joe Tieszen and Barney Fuller rounding out the pack.  Arnett won the heat race.

The team of Shawn Callies/Jason Schwader took their first feature win in Deuces Wild action.  Shawn Ryan/Chad Larson finished second.  Third place went to Danny Harmon/Bill Harmon.  The teams of Cody Brown/Chris Bunkers and Erik Kludt/Chris Nelson rounded out the top five.  Heat race wins went to the teams of Callies/Schwader and Kelly Krueger/Mark Barkowski.

The Lake County Speedway races again next Saturday night at 8.  Lake County Speedway will also be racing on Independence Day.  All six classes will be in competition with the night being capped of with a gigantic fireworks display.
