Muntefering Returns to LCS Victory Lane

Madison, SD-Kim Muntefering and Steve Haman battled for the lead on the opening lap of the sprint car feature, but it was Muntefering that would hold the spot as they worked on completing lap two. As the field began to fall into order, Dusty Ballenger claimed a top five position on lap three. On lap six, Muntefering ran into lap traffic and began to pick his way through. Two laps later, Ballenger would catch Randy Droescher stuck behind a slower car. Ballenger took advantage of the situation and moved into fourth. Racing slowed with 11 laps completed as Steve Haman lost the inside rear tire off his #23 machine while running in the second position. Haman's crew went to work, replaced the tire, and returned the car to action. Muntefering would be untouchable out front on his way to his second feature win of the season. Ballenger came to the line second with Mike Ellingson in third. Droescher and Doug Martens rounded out the top five. "Hats off to my crew," said Muntefering after the race. "They did a lot of final, last minute adjustments. Without them, I couldn't do it." He continued by thanking his wife, and his children. "They support me 150 per cent." Muntefering also wanted to thank his fans. "All four of them," he said with a smile. Ellingson and Muntefering won the heat races.
Matt Steuerwald led all 15 laps of the Late Model Stock Car feature to take home his third Lake County Speedway trophy of the season. Brad Wollman came from tenth to finish second. Third went to Lee Schlumbohm. Perry Tschetter and Curt Bauman rounded out the top five. The race was caution once when Scott Freet got out of shape exiting turn four, and slammed the #69 into the front stretch wall and stopped on the speedway. Heat race wins went to Steuerwald and Freet.
"It's been a long time, '92 was the last one," said Kevin Spurgin after taking the win in the Sportsmen main event. Spurgin led all 12 laps of the event to put the #7x into the winner's circle. Spurgin was challenged several times by Daryl Reverts for the top spot. "When I saw him, I thought holy smokes, I better push the car a little harder," said Spurgin. "After I pushed the car a little harder, I never saw him again." Reverts placed second with Matt Ayres, Chuck Harming, and Richard Holbrook rounding out the top five. Heat race wins went to Spurgin, Harming, and Jeremiah Jordahl.
Adam Thielbar took the lead of the NMRA Hobby Stock feature on a lap five restart and would never look back on his way to his second feature win of the season. Jeff Beck came from ninth to finish second. Justin Selken came from eighth to finish third. Justin Lebahn and Mike McGillivray rounded out the top five. Adam Rinehart, Steve Eliason, and McGillivray claimed heat race wins. The "B" feature went to Johnny Monsees.
Team Penning picked up their second feature win of the season in Deuces Wild action. The teams of Prussman, Bahr, Vetch, and Mulder rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to the teams of Claussen and Penning.
