Martens returns to victory lane

The last time Doug Martens visited the winner's circle of Lake County Speedway, was the season opener of 2000. Martens started on the outside of the front row, and was looking to end the drought. Martens and Mike McMahan led the full field of NMRA 360 Sprints to the green flag, and by turn one, Martens had pulled his Fort Randall Casino sprinter into the lead. Martens ran into lap traffic on the fifth revolution of the race. "I've been burned in lap traffic a few times before, and I was going to pass everything that got in my way," said the former World of Outlaws official, Martens, after the race. As Gary Johnson and Mike Ellingson worked their way through the intense lap traffic and battled for the third position, Johnson ran into the back of a slower car. The Jack's Service #18 of Johnson slowed causing Kevin Ingle to spin on the front stretch. Ingle and Johnson would suffer damage to their cars and would not continue in the race. The caution allowed McMahan's City Wide Insulation car and the rest of the field the bunch up to the rear bumper of Martens, but Martens was untouchable as he led every lap on his way to the victory. "I've been working at this all year. finally," Martens said. McMahan held on for his best ever LCS finish with his second place showing. Mike Ellingson finished third followed by points leader Kory Rawstern. Kim Muntefering finished fifth. Heat races went to Johnson, Martens, and Ellingson.
Rob Anderson passed Don Bickett for the lead on lap eight of the Late Model Stock Car feature, and went on to claim the win. The victory is the fourth time the Dells Diesel Service car has made its way into the LCS winner's circle this season. "I knew I wasn't going to pass him on the bottom," said Anderson on his pass around the outside of Bickett for the lead. "You've got to go where the traffic is not." Brad Wollman came from ninth to finish second. Bickett finished third with JJ Zebell and Curt Bauman rounding out the top five. Bickett and Zebell won the heat races.
Jeremiah Jordahl led all 12 laps of the Sportsmen feature to claim his first career LCS victory. After restarting in the back for being involved in a lap seven incident, Rick Goth finished second. Rick VanderWeide came from tenth to finish third. Jeff Wittrock and Matt Ayres rounded out the top five. Heat races wins went to Vander Weide, Jordahl, and Chuck Harming. The "B" feature was won by Daryl Reverts.
With two laps to go, Rick Webito spun out and lost gave the lead to Jeff Beck. Beck went on to win his third feature of the year. The "B" feature winner, Mike McGillivray, finished second with Mike Kiggins in third. Walter Kiggins and Justin Lebahn rounded out the top five. Heat wins went to Adam Rinehart, Walter Kiggins, and Mike Kiggins.
Team Harmon won the Deuces Wild feature. Team Larson and Bahr rounded out the top three. Heat races went to the teams of Larson, Bahr and Prussman. The teams of Penning and Mulder won the "B" features.
