Rawstern Rolls on

Madison, SD--Paul Poncelet claimed the early lead of the NMRA 360 sprint car feature. Poncelet, the former stock car track champion, was filling in for Joe Riedel who is in guard camp. The 16 lap event would slow on lap three as the Billion Automotive sprinter of Kevin Droll would break a spindle while exiting turn two and lose a tire. The car would spin in front of several cars, but all drivers would react and avoid collision. When the green flag waved to restart the race, Kory Rawstern had already moved into the third position, but he wouldn't stay there long as he claimed second on the back stretch passing Justin Saathoff. Six laps were in the books when the red flag would wave over the speedway. Kim Muntefering lost the handle of his car exiting turn four. Mike McMahan had nowhere to go, and slammed into Muntefering's car. McMahan's City Wide Insulation car would bounce on all four corners of the car, but never completely roll over. Both drivers were uninjured, but the racecars were damaged too badly to continue. The field was working lap eight when Rawstern, the defending track champion, passed Poncelet to take the lead. Rawstern led the last half of the race and put the Lakeview Realty car into victory lane for the second week in a row. Poncelet, whose most recent LCS win is July 1996, came to the finish second. Saathoff, Randy Droescher, and Steve Haman rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to Poncelet and Droll.
"It's nice to get back into the winner's circle," said Gary Brown Jr. after winning the Late Model Stock Car feature. Brown started ninth and passed Don Bickett for the lead on lap seven, but the caution flag would wave, sending the lineup to the last completed lap, and giving Bickett the restart lead. Brown made his way under and by Bickett on lap 11 and went on to take his first LCS win of the season. His only other win at the speedway came September 1998. Brad Wollman came from the tenth starting position to take second. Bickett finished third followed by Scott Freet and Lee Schlumbohm. Heat race wins went to Brown and Schlumbohm.
Daryl Reverts led all 12 laps of the Sportsmen main event to claim his second win of the season. Corey Kilber finished second. Jeff Hertel started tenth and charged forward to finish third. Matt Ayres and Kevin Konda rounded out the top five. Chris Ellingson, Chuck Harming, and Richard Holbrook won the heat races.
It only happens once in a career, and for Adam Thielbar, that night finally came. Thielbar made the most of his pole position start and led every lap of the NMRA Hobby Stock feature to pick up his first career victory. "The last lap, I could barely hold it on the floor my leg was shaking so bad," said Thielbar after the win. After restarting from the back due to a jumped start, Mike Kiggins finished second. Justin Selken came from the ninth starting spot to finish third. Dale Tomes and Steve Eliason founded out the top five. Dean Dunkelberger, Adam Rinehart, and Thielbar claimed heat race wins.
Team Harmon edged out Team Claussen to claim the Deuces Wild victory. Team Mulder finished third. Heat race wins went to the teams of Tilden, Dafoe, and Bahr. The teams of Eckes and Larson won the "B" features. Lake County Speedway resumes the racing action next Saturday night at 8 pm sharp.
