The final night of racing before the season championships provided a full grandstand of fans with some of the best racing action seen this season Saturday night at Lake County Speedway.
The battle between Brad Wollman and Todd Sterzinger for the late model stock car championship continued and it was Wollman coming out on top this time. Wollman recovered from a spin early in the race and charged back through the field to take the feature win. Sterzinger had a little more difficult time working his way to the front but managed to edge by Don Bickett at the checkered for third behind Perry Tschetter. Wollman broke the tie the pair held for the point lead going into the race and now holds a two point advantage going into next week’s final points race.
Rookie Joe Riedel led all the way to claim his first-ever 360 sprint feature win, becoming the 12th different sprint driver to win a feature at the track this year. Riedel had to fight off a fast-closing Kory Rawstern the final lap to earn his victory. Brad Nelson was third followed by Justin Saathoff and Kevin Ingle.
The sportsmen feature had one of the most exciting finishes seen this year as the first six cars took the checkered two abreast, side-by-side. Mike Husman led the pack to the finish as he took the lead for the first time in the race after passing leader Josh Schmidt coming out of the final turn. Chris Ellingson was right beside Husman to take second followed by Schmidt, Matt Ayres, Matt Steuerwald and Russ Peterson.
John Hurley took the lead early in the race and went on to win his second consecutive hobby stock feature. Mike Kiggins took second ahead of Ryan Van Emmerick and Dale Tomes.
The front-wheel drives had a thrilling finish of their own as the first three cars took the checkered three-wide. It was Anderson and Michelke just pulling out the win ahead of Jensen and Jensen and Olson and Gluhm.
