Garretson’s Lee Schlumbohm made it two wins in a row and three in the last four weeks as he outran the field to win the late model stock car feature in racing action Saturday night at Lake County Speedway. Schlumbohm grabbed the lead from Rick Eich on lap four and ran uncontested the rest of the way, in spite of two restarts. Schlumbohm’s car owner, Dale Furby, was second while Todd Sterzinger came out on top of a wild fight for third ahead of Curt Bauman, Brad Wollman and Dan Jensen. Sterzinger’s third-place finish put him into a tie with Wollman for the point lead in the division.
In the 360 sprints, Gary Johnson filled in once again for Kory Rawstern and brought home another trophy as he won his third feature of the year. Johnson passed Joe Riedel with five laps to go for the lead and went on to the win. Butch Hanssen came eighth to pass Riedel for second with three laps left but was unable to gain any ground on Johnson. Riedel held off Donovan Peterson by inches for third and Kim Muntefering was fifth.
After winning his first feature at the track in seven years a month ago, Mike Husman didn’t wait quite as long for his second win as he led all the way to win the sportsmen feature. Husman took the win by two car lengths ahead of Matt Steuerwald. After qualifying through the “B” feature, point-leader Chris Ellingson came all the way from 13th to nip Chuck Harming for third at the finish. Russ Peterson, who trailed Ellingson by just one point going into the night’s action, suffered a serious blow to his title aspirations when mechanical problems forced him out of his heat race and prevented him from running the feature.
Curt Ottoson came from the fourth row to pass Mike Kiggins on the final lap to win his fifth hobby stock feature of the year. Dean Dunkelberger and Dale Tomes both came on to get by Kiggins to take second and third, respectively, while Kiggins settled for fourth ahead of Andy Ullom.
The team of Rinehart and Vetsch passed McGillivray and Paugh following a restart with two laps to go to win their first ever front-wheel drive feature.
