Saturday night was a big night for the Bickett family as Don and son Ryan both scored their first feature wins of the year. Don, in his 25th year of racing, led the entire distance to capture the win in the late model stock cars. Bickett was pressured late in the race by Dale Furby and took the checkered flag by a car length over Furby at the finish. The point race in the division remained tight as point-leader Brad Wollman finished third ahead of his closest challenger Todd Sterzinger.
Ryan Bickett also led the entire race as his father did, although his margin of victory wasn’t near as close as he cruised to an easy win in the hobby stock feature. Ryan took the win by almost a straightaway’s advantage over Ryan Van Emmerick to score his first feature win ever. Third went to Dale Tomes followed by point-leader Jeff Beck.
Another first time winner at the track this year was Brad Nelson, who took first place honors in the sprint car feature. Nelson became the tenth different winner in thirteen nights of racing as he took the lead early in the race. Nelson actually dropped to second with two laps to go when Justin Saathoff passed him for the lead but fought back to regain the point a half a lap later and went on to the win. Saathoff settled for second ahead of Kevin Ingle, Kory Rawstern and Doug Martens.
Rick Vander Weide took the lead on lap three and went on to win his second sportsmen feature of the year. Vander Weide tangled with Josh Schmidt on the third lap while battling for the lead and Schmidt went into the turn three wall and rolled. Schmidt was uninjured in the incident. Vander Weide went the rest of the way unchallenged and was chased across the finish line by Gary Gonyo, point-leader Russ Peterson and Chris Ellingson.
The team of Ryan and Larson took their first feature win of the year as they outran the field to win the front-wheel drive feature. McGillivray and Nelson’s second place finish put them into the point lead in the division.
