Todd Sterzinger passed Perry Tschetter on the final lap to win a thrilling late model stock car feature Saturday night at Lake County Speedway. Sterzinger came from the fifth row to run down Tschetter with five laps to go in the 15-lap event before taking the high side around the leader as the pair took the white flag. Sterzinger, who’s finished runner-up in points the last two years to Brad Wollman, sits in second once again behind the defending champion, six points back. Tschetter held on to take second ahead of Wollman, Rick Eich and Don Bickett.
Ron Dobesh became the ninth different driver in 10 nights of racing to win a sprint car feature. Dobesh jumped from the outside pole into the lead at the start and led all 12 laps of the non-stop event, capturing his first feature win ever at the track. Right behind Dobesh nearly the entire way was Brian Baker, as the pair finished nearly half a lap ahead of the rest of the field. Third went to Brad Nelson followed by Mike Ellingson and Justin Saathoff.
Fifth-row starter Russ Peterson held off Chris Ellingson to win an exciting Nordstrom’s Sportsmen feature, his first feature win of the year. Peterson took the lead on lap eight of the 12-lap event when leader Jeff Wittrock suffered a flat tire. Ellingson came from the final row of the 14-car field after transferring through the “B” feature to challenge Peterson the final laps. At the finish it was Peterson first with Ellingson right on his bumper, followed by Rick Goth, Gary Gonyo, and Matt Steuerwald.
Curt Ottoson became the first three-time winner in the hobby stocks this year as he took the feature win. Ottoson foiled Justin Lebahn’s attempt to win his first-ever feature when he passed Lebahn for the lead with three laps to go. Ottoson took the checkered half a straightaway over Lebahn with third going to Dean Dunkelberger ahead of Justin Selken and Jeff Beck.
The team of Dafoe and Rose took their second consecutive feature win and third of the year in the front-wheel drives. Second went to Olson and Gluhm followed by Harmon and Klarenbeck.
