Nine-time track champion Marty Barber slid behind the wheel for the first time at Lake County Speedway this season and promptly picked up his 67th career feature win at the track as he took the win in the late model stock car feature. Barber, filling in for Kent Plimpton, moved from the third starting row to second place by the fourth lap and took over the point when leader Perry Tschetter’s mechanical woes continued as Tschetter’s car coasted to a stop. Following the restart, Barber had to fend off challenges first by Rick Eich and later by Todd Sterzinger, and it was Barber taking the checkered flag first with Sterzinger right on his bumper. Eich settled for third ahead of Matt Steuerwald (in Dale Furby’s #34) and Rob Anderson.
Kevin Ingle became the eighth different sprint car driver in nine nights of racing to score a feature win as he topped the field to win the sprint car feature. The win was the first-ever feature victory for the Huron driver. Ingle led all twelve laps and pulled away from Kim Muntefering following a restart with two laps to go to take the win by five car lengths. Muntefering held off a strong challenge by Kenny Hansen (in Kory Rawstern’s #4k) to take second by just a couple of feet.
The sportsmen feature was a was a real thriller that saw a photo-finish at the checkered. Jeff Wittrock, who led the entire race, was awarded the win by officials by inches over Chris Ellingson. Ellingson worked his way up from the fourth starting row and the pair battled the entire final lap side-by-side. Although he finished a disappointing second, Ellingson did take over the point lead. Third went to Matt Ayres ahead of “B” feature transfer Larry Kracht and Jim Parsons.
Curt Ottoson came from the third row to pass leader Jeff Ellingson on lap six and went on to win his third hobby stock feature of the year. Jeff Beck was second followed by Andy Ullom and Mike Kiggins.
The team of Rose and Dafoe held off Paugh and McGillivray to win their second front-wheel drive feature of the year.
