Defending point champion Gary Johnson made a successful return from his “retirement” by capturing the sprint car feature in racing action Saturday night at Lake County Speedway. Johnson, who sold his car to Kory Rawstern after last season, took the seat in his old car for an ailing Rawstern an promptly roared to the victory, leading the entire race. While third row starter Mike Ellingson was close behind Johnson much of the race, Johnson ended up out-distancing him by half the length of the straightaway at the finish. Kevin Ingle, who has suffered some tough luck at the track this year, had a solid run to take third followed by Steve Haman and Brian Baker.
Kent Plimpton took advantage of his pole starting position and raced to the late model stock car feature win. Plimpton jumped into the lead at the start of the 15-lap event and quickly pulled away from the rest of the field. Although several caution periods forced Plimpton to surrender his large leads at different stages of the race, he was never seriously challenged as he took the checkered flag ahead of runner-up Curt Bauman. Matt Steuerwald, filling in for Dale Furby, had an excellent run has he finished third ahead of Don Bickett and Scott Freet.
Chuck Harming scored his first feature win of the year as he captured the sportsmen feature win. Harming led the entire 12 laps to take the win two car lengths ahead of Russ Peterson, who worked his way up from thirteen to take the runner-up spot. Third went to Chris Ellingson followed by Ryan Nelson and Jeff Hertl.
Justin Selken held off Dale Tomes to win his second hobby stock feature of the year. Selken took the checkered by a car length over Tomes, followed by Jeff Beck and Mike Kiggins.
The team of Claussen and Emery took their first-ever feature win in the front-wheel drives. Second went to Rave and Roman followed by Almont and Vetsch.
