Brad Wollman padded his point lead in the late model stock cars as he scored his third feature win of the year in racing action Saturday night at Lake County Speedway.
Rick Eich took the early lead in the 15-lap event before spinning on lap three, handing the point to Bruce Bortnem It was Bortnem leading the field for the next two circuits when Kent Plimpton became the third leader on lap five. Meanwhile, it was the two-time defending champion Wollman moving through the field from the fifth row to challenge Plimpton for the lead, and with seven laps to go it was Wollman taking the lead for the race’s final lead change. Todd Sterzinger had a strong run as he made up a lot of ground late in the race to take second by two car lengths. Plimpton came across the finish line third ahead of Rob Anderson and Curt Bauman.
Mike Ellingson took the lead on lap two when leader Kevin Ingle clipped the wall and went on to take the sprint car feature win, becoming the seventh different driver in the class in as many nights of racing to claim a feature victory. Kim Muntefering finished second followed by Steve Haman, Justin Saathoff and Joe Riedel.
A little extra incentive looked to help Rick Goth as he sped to the sportsmen feature win. With his sponsor Century 21 putting up a $500 bonus for a win, Goth took the lead on lap three and led the rest of the way to win the 12-lap event. Goth became the first repeat feature winner in the class this year, taking the win four car lengths ahead of point-leader Jeff Hertl. Matt Steuerwald, Russ Peterson and Chris Ellingson rounded out the top five. The race was red-flagged on the second lap when Jeremy Van Wyhe’s car went high in the air and rolled on the front straight. Van Wyhe was uninjured.
Jeff Beck came from a ninth place starting spot to pass leader Justin Selken following a restart with two laps to go and went on to win the hobby stock feature. Beck took the checkered flag two car lengths ahead last row starter Andy Ullom, and in the process took over the point lead from Dan Doyle. Selken settled for second ahead of Mike Kiggins and Johnny Monsees. Nick Grad was uninjured when his car rolled off the first turn with two laps to go.
Kermit Rose and Brett Dafoe scored their first feature win of the year in the front-wheel drives. Rave and Puman were second followed by Jeff Claussen and Steve Emery.
