Brad Wollman, Chuck McGillivray, Russ Peterson and Andy Ullom captured feature wins in racing action Saturday night at Lake County Speedway.
After having a career year in 1998 with eleven feature wins and a track championship, Wollman has found the going tougher at the track in 99, due probably to a combination of mechanical problems along with an increase in the level of competition in the class. But Saturday night the Bridgewater driver was able to overcome both of those obstacles as he came from the fifth row to snatch the lead from Kent Plimpton on lap nine of the fifteen lap event and went on to take the win. A restart with three laps to go put Todd Sterzinger right behind Wollman on the restart, and Sterzinger put on a strong challenge in the closing laps only to lose by a couple of car lengths at the finish. Larry Dixon was third followed by Perry Tschetter and Rob Anderson. The points battle tightened up significantly when the point leader going into the evenings action, Dale Furby, lost a motor in hot laps and was sidelined for the rest of the night.
Chuck McGillivray dominated action in the Pam Oil/Valvoline/AC Delco/Lewis Drug/Pepsi 360 sprints as he led from wire-to-wire in winning his third feature of the year. Chad Meyer came from the last row to pass last weeks winner, Brad Nelson, for second with two laps to go but McGillivrays advantage by then had grown to almost a half a lap, forcing Meyer to settle for second followed by Nelson, Steve Haman and Mike Ellingson.
The Nordstroms Sportsmen feature saw a driver score his first feature win ever as Russ Peterson took the win. The race had a tough time getting under way as first the caution flew and then the red stopped action on lap one when Todd Holter escaped injury after flipping hard in the second turn. When the action resumed, it was Peterson taking the lead and holding it the rest of the way. Right behind Peterson at the finish were Mike Husman, Al Barnhart, Matt Steuerwald and Chris Ellingson.
Andy Ullom outran the field to win his second hobby stock feature of the year. Ullom led all the way to take the victory just ahead of last weeks winner, Doug Van Liere, with Jeff Beck, Tim Dann and Dale Tomes rounding out the top five. The race was halted with three laps to go when Dan Doyle got his car sideways coming out of the second turn and was struck hard by Nick Grad, sending Doyles car into a roll. Fortunately both drivers were all right but their cars were heavily damaged.
The Deuces Wild front-wheel drives saw a team take their first feature win ever as Fedeler and Tooker took the win. They were followed by Anderson and Michelke in second while Willmont and Insley were third.
