Peters, Rosenboom, Gerritsen Jr., and Arends Feature Winners Sunday Night

By Heather Riffel

(August 13, 2006-Brandon, SD) There was a large crowd Sunday night at Huset’s Speedway and they saw a great show with big car counts in all four classes. The crowd was not disappointed with the great racing action that they saw. Jake Peters was able to pick up his first win of the season in the Outlaw Sprints. Jody Rosenboom picked up his second win of the year in the NMRA Sprints. Don Gerritsen Jr. was able to capture his sixth win of the season in the Late Model Stock Cars. Justin Arends won his third Hobby Stock feature this season.

Jake Peters started on the pole of the Outlaw Sprint feature but he was not able to lead the first lap instead Gregg Bakker crossed the line first. Bakker held onto the lead throughout most of the 25 lap race. Behind Bakker, Jonathan Allard and Wade Nygaard battled for the third position lap after lap. Dusty Zomer moved up on lap seven to battle with Allard and Nygaard for the third position. On lap 10 the caution came out for Johnn Cressman. On the restart the field remained single file for many laps. On lap 20 the caution came out again for Bill Boles and Allard eliminating their chances for top five finishes. With five laps remaining the battles really heated up. Mark Dobmeier and Micah Schliemann moved up into the top five. With three laps remaining Peters was able to catch Bakker and pass him in turn four. It was an impressive move by Peters and led him to victory. Bakker came in second. Zomer finished in the third position after finishing in the 15th position at the Knoxville Nationals the night before. Schliemann held onto the fourth position while Dobmeier finished in fifth.

Jody Rosenboom started on the outside pole of the Sprint feature and led all 18 laps. Dusty Wasmund was battling for the fourth position with Donovan Peterson. The caution came out on lap 10 when Eric McGillivray slowed on the track. On the restart the red flag came out when Brad Nelson flipped on the front stretch collecting Johnn Cressman, Brock Dump, and Peterson. On the restart Butch Hanssen moved up with three laps remaining to challenge for the race lead. Rosenboom was able to hold on and pick up the win. Hanssen finished in second while Mitch Runge came in third. Wasmund took fourth while Brent Vonk finished in fifth filling in for Brandon Rokusek.

Don Gerritsen Jr. started on the outside pole and led all 15 laps of the Late Model Stock Car feature. Nick Beyenhof, Don Grems, and Lee Schlumbohm all battled for the second position. There was a string of cautions starting on lap four. The first caution was for Rick VanderWeide stopping in turn three. The second caution was for debris and the third caution came out for Brian Heiman. The remaining seven laps featured Jeff Kroger, Beyenhof, and Gary Brown Jr. battling for third. When it was all over Gerritsen Jr. took home another trophy. Schlumbohm finished in second while Beyenhof came in third. Brown Jr. came in fourth and Kroger finished in fifth.

Zeb Larsen took the early lead in the Hobby Stock feature. On lap seven Eric Taylor, Dave Kennedy, and David Beman Jr. battled for the fourth position. The caution came out on lap 10 for Tom Cauwels. The race ended in a green-white-checkered. Jared Nytroe and Kennedy were battling for the fifth position when Justin Arends moved up to slide past Larsen on the last lap for the race win. After leading most of the race, Larsen watched it slip away on the last lap and ended up finishing in second. Kevin Joachim finished in third while Taylor came in fourth. Nytroe rounded out the top five.
