By Heather Riffel

(July 27, 2006-Brandon, SD) Josh Bethke, Brad Winesburg, Shane Klaassen, and Andy Kotek picked up their first wins of the season during Thursday night Thriller action at Huset’s Speedway. Adding to their win totals this season were Tyler Larsen, Larry Buckneburg, and Bret Mellenberndt.

Bret Mellenberndt started on the pole of the Heartland Racing Association Wingless Sprint feature. He led all ten laps of the event. The only incident came in lap two when Jeff Luhmann got into the turn two inside wall. Mellenberndt picked up his second win of the season and held onto the championship point lead. Gerod Olivier finished in the second position and Jeff Davis rounded out the running order.

Andy Hofmeyer started on the pole of the USRA B-Modified feature. He was leading each lap and had got out to a huge lead. On lap eight his engine started to smoke and by lap nine the caution was brought out and he took his car to the infield. This handed the lead over to Andy Kotek, racing for the first time at Huset’s Speedway. Kotek led the remaining two laps and picked up the win. Tate Eining finished in the second position.

Jared Nytroe started on the pole of the Hobby Stock feature. Shane Klaassen took the lead on the first lap and led all 12 laps. Chad Graves and Tommy Barber were a heated battle all race long for the third position. Klaassen took home the trophy for his first win of the season. Nytroe followed in second. Graves took the third spot and Barber came in fourth. Jason Vande Vegte rounded out the top five.

Brad Winesburg started on the outside pole and led all 12 laps of the Sportsmen feature. The race was really spread out with no challenges for the lead. Winesburg picked up his first win of the season. Steve Eliason crossed the line in the second position and held onto his point lead. David Krueger finished in the third spot and Sam Johnson took the fourth position.

Brandon Nytroe started on the outside pole of the Factory Stock feature. He was able to lead the first two laps before Larry Buckneberg moved from the fourth starting position to take the lead. Buckneberg led the remaining four laps and took his fourth trophy of the season. Travis Christensen took the second spot from Nytroe on the white flag lap. Jim Klutman finished in the fourth position and Greg Pettersen rounded out the top five.

Troy Schreurs started in the fourth position and took the lead on the first lap of the 6-Cylinder Hornet feature. Tyler Larson moved his way back up and took the lead on the white flag lap. Larson crossed the line first and picked up his second win of the season. Schreurs held onto the second spot while Tyler Demers finished in third. Matthew Grisham took the fourth spot and Josh Van Engen rounded out the top five.

Josh Bethke was able to lead all six laps of the 4-Cylinder Hornet feature. His only challenge came from Brian Voges. Bethke held on to win his first race in his first start at Huset’s. Voges finished in second and Travis Schreurs came in third. Jake Schroeder finished in the fourth spot.
