Roemen and Roemen big winners on Thursday night Thriller

By Heather Riffel

(June 1, 2006-Brandon, SD) The opening night of the Huset’s Speedway Thursday night Thriller got off to an exciting start with lots of new racing action. The classes featured were two classes of Hornets, Factory Stocks, Sportsmen, B-Modifieds, and Non-Winged Sprint Cars. Dan Roemen was a first time winner in the Factory Stock class. Other winners were Brian Voges, Troy Schreurs, Greg Roemen, Andy Hofmeyer, and Doug Martens.

Doug Martens started on the pole of the Heartland Racing Association Wingless Sprint Car A feature. The race was filled with close racing action but Martens was able to hold on for the win. He was followed by Brett Mellenberndt and Andy Anderson. Dana Buttemeier and Jeff Davis rounded out the top five.

The B-Modifieds feature had Andy Hofmeyer starting on the pole and leading flag to flag. He battled it out with Michael Fogelman who ended up finishing second. This is a growing series at Huset’s and will bring more and more exciting racing action to the track as the season progresses.

Brad Winesburg started on the pole of the Sportsmen feature. He and Greg Roemen battled it out the entire race for the lead. Winesburg was still able to lead lap after lap though. On the last lap with lots of bumping between all three cars Roemen was able to go low and take the lead in turn four. Coming across the line he beat out Andy Gabrielson by inches. They were followed by Winesburg.

Going into turn one of the Factory Stock feature Dan Roemen, Brandon Nytroe, and Jim Klutman were three wide. By the time the first lap was over Travis Christensen was leading. Roemen used the low line to pass Christensen and remain in the lead for the rest of the race. This marked Roemen’s first win in a Factory Stock. He was followed by Christensen, Nytroe, Larry Buckneberg, and Klutman.

In the A-Hornets feature Troy Schreurs got out to a big lead while Dustin Gulbranson, Justin Scarborough, and Tyler DeMers battled it out for second, third, and fourth. At the line it was Schreurs followed by Scarborough, DeMers, Gulbranson, and Josh VanEngen rounding out the top five.

Brian Voges started on the pole and took a commanding lead the entire race in the B-Hornets feature event. The race for second was between Chris Bornitz and Travis Schreurs. They battled back and forth the entire race. Voges took the checkers followed by Schreurs, Bornitz, and Brianna Schroeder.

The night was capped off by an exhibition race to see which was faster a B-Modified or a Sportsmen. This last minute race was set-up by Art Nordstrom with a 100 dollars to win on the line. The entire race was lead by Andy Hofmeyer in the B-Modified. He was followed by Greg Roemen in a Sportsmen car. Then Michael Fogelman in a B-Modified and Brad Winesburg in a Sportsmen. They doubled up the cars for a green-white-checkered dash to the finish. Roemen and Winesburg got together and spun which let Andy Hofmeyer and Michael Fogelman to finish 1-2 in their B-Modifieds.

See more of this racing action every Thursday night starting at 7:30pm at Huset’s Speedway.
