Chad Meyer takes fourth win of season at Huset’s

By Shawn Neisteadt

(July 10, 2005-Sioux Falls, SD) Chad Meyer continued his domination of the Outlaw Sprint cars at Huset’s Speedway, while in the 360 class it was Micah Schliemann returning to victory lane. Darrin Korthals got back on track with the win in the Late Model Stock Cars and Chad Graves took the lead in the final turn of the Hobby Stock feature to take his third win of the year.

Clint Garner raced into the lead of the outlaw feature as the green flag was waved. Two laps into the 25 lapper, Chad Meyer made his way into second. The caution waved when John Lambertz spun in turn four. On the restart, Dusty Zomer rocketed from fifth to third with Bill Boles following and moving into fourth. As the leaders entered traffic on lap eight, the caution came out again. This time it was for Chuck McGillivray as he had spun in turn two.

Gregg Bakker made his way into the top five on the restart as he overtook Boles, but the biggest pass on lap nice was the pass of the lead. Garner took the cushion into turn three while Meyer dove to the bottom. Meyer hooked up on the exit of turn four and drove into the lead. Bakker was charging as he took fourth from Mark Dobmeier on lap eleven.

On a restart on lap 12, Zomer made his way around Garner and into second with Gary DeWall cracking the top five as he passed Dobmeier. One lap later, Bakker took third from Garner.

At the finish it was Meyer over Zomer by nearly a full straightaway. Bakker crossed the line third followed by Garner and Jake Peters.

It took half of the 18 lap 360 sprint feature for Micah Schliemann to drive from the fifteenth starting position to the lead. From there on it was a Sunday drive for Schliemann as he took his third win of the season in the 360 class. Jesse Drost was second. Cody Hansen led the first half of the race and crossed the line third with Lyle Howey and Jordan Martens rounding out the top five.

Darrin Korthals had quite a weekend. On Friday night he tied the all time wins record at Rapid Speedway, then on Sunday he backed that up with his fourth win of the season at Huset’s. Korthals came charging from the eleventh starting position and made a tremendous pass as he split two other cars in turn two. Korthals made his way by Matt Steuerwald on lap eight and never looked back. Jeremiah Jordahl was second followed by Steuerwald. Gary Brown Jr finished fourth just ahead of Lee Schlumbohm.

Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time. That was the case for Chad Graves as he took advantage of Trent Weber’s misfortune. Weber had led the Hobby Stock feature from the drop of the green until the white flag. But, as Weber was set to come off turn four and take his first ever win at Huset’s, the white flag bug struck and Weber spun out. Graves was running in second at the time and narrowly avoided the spinning car. Graves came to the checkered for his third win of the year. Lane Brenden was second with Jeff Deighton third. Fourth went to Justin Arends and Tony Guischer was fifth.

Huset’s Speedway has another full night of action this Sunday.
