Schliemann takes first Outlaw win of Season

By Shawn Neisteadt

(July 4, 2005–Sioux Falls, SD) Most people take a small vacation over the Independence Day holiday weekend to relax and unwind. That is not quite what Micah Schliemann did for his holiday. On the third Micah strapped into both at 360 sprint and into his outlaw sprint for dual features. Schliemann turned 90 laps in green flag sprint car action, then returned to Huset’s on Monday asking for more. That is exactly what he got as he took home his first outlaw sprint win of the year.

Clint Garner took the initial lead of the race with Schliemann making several attempts to gain the top spot. The battle was interrupted on lap 10 when Chris Shirek spun in turn four. Lynton Jeffery was caught jumping the start and sent to the tail. On the next restart, Garner clipped the restart cone and was sent to the tail. Schliemann enherited the lead and would hold off several hard chargers to take the win. Jake Peters finished off his strong weekend with a second place finish followed by Waybe Johnson. Justin Henderson was fourth with Bill Boles in fifth.

Gordy Vogelaar led the first three laps of the 360 sprint feature, but it was Shawn Van Wyhe taking the lead on the third circuit. Three laps later, Vogelaar came back to the lead and this time he would not give it up as he took his first win at Huset’s in two years. Terry Reilly was second with third going to Schliemann. Casey Abbas was fourth and fifth went to Van Wyhe.

It was a crowd raising finish in the Late Model Stock Car feature. Gary Brown Jr and Ray Sveegen battled for the win on the final set of corners. As they came to the checkereds, it was Sveegen using the momentum of the high line to drive to his second win of the year at Huset’s. Brown was a close second with Darrin Korthals third. Jeff Kroger and Dan Jensen rounded out the top five.

Lane Brenden was victorious in the Hobby Stock feature as he ran away from the field. Dave Beman Jr celebrated his best ever finish at Huset’s by taking second with third going to Tracy Johnson. Chad Graves was fourth with Justin Arends fifth.
