Peters Strikes for Huset’s Win

(July 18, 2004—Sioux Falls, SD) Brock Dump took the early lead of the Outlaw Sprint feature as he raced off the pole position. Gary DeWall charged into second on the opening lap. DeWall then drove into the lead on the second lap as they raced off turn four. On the ninth lap, Mike Moore was driving forward and took third from Jim Smith. The caution waved on the tenth lap when Moore looped his #69 as he raced Dump for second.

DeWall’s quarter track advantage was erased on the restart as the field bunched up. Jake Peter was working his was forward as he passed Chuck McGillivray for fourth on the restart. Chad Meyer followed suit as he took fifth off turn four. One lap later, Peters was in third as he overtook Smith in turn four. Meyer continued to follow as he took fourth from Smith on the twelfth lap.

Peters was now in overdrive as he took second from Dump on lap 13 as they exited turn four. Meyer drove past Dump on lap 15. On the same lap, Gregg Bakker charge past Dump and Smith and into fourth.

The red flag waved with 17 laps counted when Dump and Micah Schliemann tangled with John Lambertz flipping. Dump and Lambertz were out of the event, with Schliemann getting back into the race.

Jake Peters wasted little time on the start as he took the lead from DeWall as they raced into turn three. That was then pass for the win as Peters took the trophy. Chad Meyer took second from tenth. DeWall took third with Terry McCarl making the late charge for fourth from fifteenth. Mark Dobmeier was fifth from the fourteenth starting position.

Jody Rosenboom took his first ever Huset’s Speedway win in the flag to flag 18 lap 360 sprint feature. Rosenboom took the lead of the race five laps into the event and drove to the emotional win. Dusty Ballenger closed in the final laps and took second. Third went to Troy Vink with Brent Vonk fourth. Casey Abbas took fifth.

Starting deep in the field and 15 laps could not separate Gary Brown Jr and Lee Schlumbohm. Brown started ninth with Schlumbohm taking the green from eighth. Those two charged forward with Brown taking the lead on lap ten. On the final lap Schlumbohm make a charge for the win and at the finish line it was nearly even. Brown was just inches ahead of Schlumbohm for his third win of the year. Schlumbohm settled for second with Jesse Akkerman taking third. Howard Baartman was fourth with Perry Tschetter fifth.

Tony Guischer was celebrating after the Hobby Stock feature as they first year driver took his first ever win. Josh Klay was second with third going to Justin Arends. Rob Carlson and Corey Schmuck rounded out the top five.
