Henderson edged by McCarl for Huset's win

By Shawn Neisteadt

(July 3, 2003-Sioux Falls, SD) Clint Garner took the early lead on the Interstate Auto Center Outlaw Sprint car feature. The yellow waved with one lap counted as the #R19X of Scott Winters slowed on the track. On the resulting restart, the #R19 of Justin Henderson moved into fourth and then third on lap two. On the third lap, John Lambertz moved into fourth and Gary DeWall took the fifth spot. Five laps into the 25 lap event, DeWall took fourth from Lambertz then Terry McCarl took fifth from Lambertz. Henderson took second from Chad Radel on lap six. On the ninth lap, McCarl moved by DeWall and into fourth place.

On the tenth lap, the leaders ran into lap traffic and one lap later, Henderson became the new race leader as he overtook Garner in turn four. McCarl continued to charge forward as he passed Radel for third on lap 13 and then took second from Garner on lap 15.

Henderson's lead disappeared on lap 22 as the caution waved for Lynton Jeffery who had a flat right rear tire. That set up a three lap dash for the checkereds.

Henderson pulled away on the restart and McCarl followed. The two each used opposite grooves on each end of the track. McCarl still trailed Henderson at the white. Entering turn four, McCarl went low and Henderson high. McCarl pulled the slide job in turn four, but Henderson retaliated and dove low. The tow drag raced to the finish where it was McCarl inches ahead of Henderson. McCarl started twelfth and Henderson tenth. DeWall was third and Garner fourth. Micah Schliemann took fifth.

Johnn Cressman took the lead of the 360 sprint feature three laps into the race. Cressman led the final 15 laps to take his second win of the year. Dusty Zomer finished a strong second and third went to Butch Hanssen from fourteenth. Randy Droescher was fourth and fifth went to Clint Garner.

Gary Brown, Jr. took the lead on lap 2 of the Late Model Stock Car feature and went on to take his first Huset's win of the season. Perry Tschetter was second and third went to Scott Overgaard. Dan Jensen was fourth and Chad Overgaard finished fifth.

Nick Bahr celebrated his second win of the season in the Hobby Stocks. Bahr took the lead on the seventh lap for the win. Colter Deutsch was second and Scott Borkowski third. Steve Eliason took fourth and Josh Klay rounded out the top five.
