Don Droud took advantage of Terry McCarl’s misfortune en route to his first outlaw sprint feature win of the year before a huge crowd Sunday night at the mid-season championships at Huset’s Speedway.    McCarl, who was seeking his 39th feature win at the track which would break his tie with Danny Lasoski for the all-time lead in outlaw sprint victories, took the lead on lap three of the 25-lap event and appeared to be well on his way to the win. But McCarl’s lead was short-lived as he clipped the turn four wall on the next lap, filling his right rear wheel with mud and forcing his badly vibrating machine to a stop. While McCarl rejoined the back of the 17-car field, Randy Nygaard held the point on the restart. The race was red-flagged before another lap could be completed when Micah Schliemann hit the wall in turn one, sending his car flipping directly into the path of point leader Chad Radel. Neither driver was injured, but both were sidelined for the evening, in spite of a valiant effort by Radel’s crew to repair his car and get the point leader back in the race. As the race restarted once again, Nygaard clung to the lead for two more laps until Don Droud powered by to take the point. While Droud began pulling away from the field, McCarl made a hard charge towards the front, picking off cars methodically until he eventually passed Nygaard for second with two laps to go. But by this time Droud was long gone, nearly half a lap ahead and on his way to the win. McCarl settled for second ahead of Nygaard, Terry Reilly and Gary DeWall.

Reilly pulled double duty once again as he outran the field to win the 360 sprint feature.    Reilly rode the high side to take the lead on lap 10 and went unchallenged the rest of the way to win the 18-lap event, his third feature win of the year. Steve Haman had a solid run to take second ahead of Lee Goos, Donovan Peterson and Mike Ellingson. Point leader Justin Henderson crashed on the first lap of his heat race and was unable to start the feature.

Marty Barber took the lead on lap five and then held off a strong challenge by Perry Tschetter to win the non-stop 18-lap late model stock car feature, his 50th career win at the track. Following Tschetter in third was Jim Baartman while Rob Anderson took fourth.   An emotional Barber declared in a post-race interview that this was his final race, and awarded track-side interviewer Tom Savage with his firesuit as a momento of the occasion.
