BRANDON, SD (July 3) -- The love affair between Mark Kinser and Huset's Speedway continues.

Kinser won his fourth straight Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series "A" Feature at Brandon's high-banked, 3/8-mile oval Monday, passing Donny Schatz early in the eighth lap and holding off Sammy Swindell as they headed for the checkered flag.

"It's an honor to win four in a row here at Huset's," Mark said. "They have a really nice place here, and we have a lot of fans we enjoy talking to after the races."

The $10,000 victory was Kinser's second in as many nights. He won the 17th Annual Eagle Nationals Sunday at Eagle Raceway. He leads the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series with seven main event victories, but is still 125 points behind cousin Steve Kinser in the standings.

Mark, Husets' single-lap record holder, was the second-fastest qualifier, only .007 seconds off Joey Saldana's pace. He followed Stevie Smith across the finish line in the Second NAPA AUTO PARTS Heat Race, then earned the outside pole position in the 30-lap "A" Feature by winning the Second CHANNELLOCK Dash from inside the second row.

Schatz burst into the lead as the green flag fell in the main event. The 1997 Rookie of the Year was seven car-lengths ahead of Kinser when he entered lapped traffic early in the fifth lap.

Toni Lutar opened the track ahead of the leaders seconds later when he spun in turn four. A turn-three collision involving Greg Hodnett and Brian Paulus on the restart sent Hodnett flipping.

Kinser kept pace with Schatz as the green flag replaced the red, and took the lead with a high move through the first and second corners two laps later.

"We were actually running the bottom until that red flag," Mark said. "I think Donny's guys told him we were running pretty good down there, so he went to the bottom on the restart. I have a pretty smart mechanic (his father, 17-time Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series car owner champion Karl Kinser). He set the car up for the top, and we were able to drive by Donny."

Steve Kinser, whose crew changed engines in the #11 Quaker State Maxim after he qualified 17th-quick in the Vivarin qualifying session, started outside the ninth row. "The King of the Outlaws" passed 10 cars during the first eight laps, then took the high line around Dean Jacobs through turns three and four late in lap 10 for seventh place.

Swindell steered his #1 CHANNELLOCK Stealth into the low groove in the first corner to pass Schatz for second before debris in turn four brought out the yellow flag late in the 12th lap. Paulus dropped out of the race during the caution period.

Mark Kinser raced away from the field on the restart, while his cousin made his way toward the front. Staying in the high groove, Steve passed Third NAPA AUTO PARTS Heat Race winner Andy Hillenburg and Danny Lasoski in turn two early in the 13th and 14th laps.

Mark was a straightaway ahead of Swindell when he caught the backmarkers again the next time around. Sammy, winner of five "A" Features at Huset's Speedway, narrowed the gap to eight car-lengths when the #5M Mopar Maxim clipped the outside retaining wall in the fourth corner midway through the race.

Fourth NAPA AUTO PARTS Heat Race winner Daryn Pittman was in fourth place when his throttle stuck as he entered turn three late in lap 22. He hit the retaining wall and flipped into the catch fence in the fourth corner, but was uninjured.

A lapped car separating him from Swindell on the ensuing restart allowed Kinser to open a 15-car-length advantage by lap 27. Sammy caught him in dense traffic within a lap, however. With the white flag waving, Mark took the high line through turns one and two to pass Lutar and Gary Dewall and beat Swindell across the finish line by eight car-lengths.

"You're never going to get a lead that's too big at Huset's," Kinser said following the seventh victory of his career at the facility. "I knew someone would be coming up on me there at the end. We came up on some guys racing pretty tight there, but fortunately we got the breaks on the last lap."

Schatz held off Steve Kinser for his third straight top-three finish. Lasoski crossed the finish line in fifth place, ahead of Smith, Hillenburg, Jacobs, Tim Shaffer and Saldana.

Saldana received his seventh Vivarin Fast-Time Award of the year for pacing the qualifying session with a 125.035-m.p.h. lap. WoO
