Marlon Jones showed that when the conditions are right, he can still find the fast way around the track as he dominated the outlaw sprint feature Sunday night at Huset’s Speedway.

Jones, who has suffered through a sub-par year at the track for various reasons, got it all together tonight as he led wire-to-wire, at times leading the twenty-five lap event by as much as a half a lap. The race got off to a rough start as over a third of the twenty-two car field were involved in a chain-reaction wreck on the second lap. Although fast-timer Micah Schlemann was the only driver to get on his side in the incident, a number of cars suffered damage in the incident and were either unable to restart the event or eventually dropped out later on due to damage sustained in the mishap. On the restart it was Jones quickly pulling away from the field while Matt Wasmund held the second spot. Lap fifteen saw Bob Weuve, who was sporting the number five on his car for suspended driver Terry McCarl, slip by Wasmund for the runner-up spot but down almost a half a lap to the fleet Jones. With six laps remaining, it was last week’s feature winner Craig Dollansky working his way up from the fifth row to overtake Weuve for second. While Dollansky was able to make a large cut into Jones’ advantage during the final laps, it was Jones taking Doug Clark’s double checkereds a straightaway ahead of Dollansky at the finish. Weuve held on to take third while Wasmund finished his strong run in fourth ahead of Skip Jackson.

The highly competitive Pam Oil/Valvoline/AC Delco/Lewis/Pepsi 360 sprint feature saw a driver take his first win of the year as Gary Johnson became the twelth different driver in fourteen nights of racing to win a feature.      Johnson took advantage of a caution on lap three of the eighteen lap event to grab the lead from Bob Zitterich and led the rest of the way. A caution on the final lap put Terry Karn and Butch Hanssen right behind Johnson on the restart, and it was Hanssen, continuing an awesome run from the sixteenth starting spot, getting by Karn on the restart and quickly moving up to challenge Johnson for the lead. Hanssen was able to pull alongside Johnson in the final turn, but Johnson fought him off to take the win by a car length. Karn held onto the third spot at the finish followed by Zitterich and Steve Haman.

Jeff Kroger’s tough luck came to an end for one night as he took the win in the Brandon Valley Insurance late model stock car feature. Larry Dixon was glued to Kroger’s rear bumper for almost the entire race and it was Dixon making a strong run for the win as the pair exited the final turn side-by-side. But Kroger was not to be denied as held off Dixon to take the win by a fender at the finish. Dan Jensen increased his point lead as he came from the fifth row to take third ahead of Dave Olivier and Todd Sterzinger.
