Terry McCarl became the first repeat feature winner at Huset’s Speedway this year as he captured the win in the outlaw sprint feature Sunday night.

It took McCarl just six laps to come from the third row to overtake leader Skip Jackson and roar on to the victory and the $2000 first place prize in the twenty-five lap event. While light rain sprinkles fell throughout the event, McCarl was clearly the class of the field as he pulled away to take the win by more than a straightaway on the super fast high-banked 3/8 mile oval. Leonard Lee overtook Jackson on the ninth circuit but was no match for McCarl as he settled for second in the non-stop event. Jackson came across third followed by Nordica Public Bonded Warehouse fast-timer Chad Radel, while Jake Peters kept his record perfect for top five finishes this season with a fifth place run.

The Pam Oil/Valvoline/AC Delco/Lewis Drug/Pepsi 360 sprint feature saw a driver take his first feature win ever at the track as Lee Goos took the win. Last week’s feature winner Randy Nygaard took the lead on the second lap of the eighteen lap event and opened a sizable lead over Goos until encountering lapped traffic on the seventh lap which allowed Goos to close in. The red flag flew at the halfway point of the race when Matt McGee flipped his car in the second turn and collected the machines of Butch Hanssen, Brett Stegenga, Scott Fokken and Chris Wasmund. All the drivers were able to walk away from the mishap uninjured but only Hanssen was able to continue on the restart. Nygaard was able to pull away from Goos on the restart but once again Goos slowly made up the difference as he stayed in the low groove while Nygaard rode the cushion. With their cars nose-to-tail when they took the white flag, Goos was able to pull alongside Nygaard as they sped down the backstretch and when Nygaard scraped the backstretch wall he lost just enought momentum to allow Goos by for the lead and eventually the win. Steve Haman and Chuck McGillivray both posted solid runs to take third and fourth, respectively, while Dean Brown was fifth.

The highly-competitive Brandon Valley Insurance late model stock cars saw another driver take his first win of the year as Perry Tschetter captured the feature win.    Tschetter came from the fourth row to pass race-long leader Doug Olivier on the twelth lap of the eighteen lap event and then held off Dale Furby to take the win by two car lengths in the non-stop event. Kelly Harmelink came all the way from the seventh row to take third ahead of last week’s winner Dan Jensen, while Olivier faded to fifth.

With threatening skies over the speedway through much of the evening, drivers and officials did a great job of keeping the program moving swiftly as the thirteen races were run in just over an hour and a half.
