Skip Jackson outran a top field of cars to score his first outlaw sprint feature win of the year Sunday night at Huset’s Speedway.

Jackson came from the second row to take the lead over the twenty car field on the second lap of the twenty-five lap event. Point leader Terry McCarl triggered the caution on lap four, sending the point leader to the back on the restart. While Jackson pulled away on the restart with Dennis Moore running a solid second, McCarl fought his towards the front, eventually overtaking the fifth spot just after the half-way point of the race. When a caution bunched the field a final time with ten laps to go after Kenny Hansen brushed the front stretch wall, Jackson was able to pull away once again from Moore, who was followed closely by Jake Peters, Leonard Lee and McCarl. That was the way they would finish at Doug Clark’s double checkereds, and it was Jackson collecting the $2000 first prize.

Chad Meyer continued his string of strong runs in the young season as he captured the win in the Pam Oil/Valvoline/AC Delco/Lewis/Pepsi 360 sprint “A” feature. Steve Haman rode his front row starting spot to the lead early in the eighteen lap event, holding the point until the red flag halted action on the thirteenth circuit when Donovan Peterson hit the first turn wall and rode out a nasty flip. On the restart it was Brett Stegenga and Haman locked in a battle for first for several laps with John Miller right behind. But two laps later it was Miller’s turn to go airborne when he flipped in the fourth turn, halting the race for the final time. Miller’s misfortune moved Meyer up to third on the restart, and it took Meyer just one lap as the race resumed to race by Stegenga and then Haman for a lead he would not relinquish. At the finish it was Meyer by four car lengths over Stegenga, while Jeremy Kasten and Clint Garner came on to take third and fourth, respectively ahead of Haman. Last week’s feature winner Dean Brown was also a rollover victim in his heat race and was unable to make repairs in time for the feature.

The Brandon Valley Insurance late model stock car “A” feature got off to a rough start when front row starter Jeff Mott hit the front stretch wall at the end of the first lap and stopped sideways in the middle of the track, collecting a good portion of the seventeen car field. Mott’s car sustained heavy damage in the incident and he, along with point leader Dale Furby, were towed to the infield. Rick Vander Weide led the field on the restart and maintained the point until Lee Schlumbohm got by him on the eighth lap. Schlumbohm quickly pulled away, eventually stretching his lead to a straightaway over Vander Weide at the finish. Third went to Brad Wollman, who worked his way up from the fourteenth starting spot, followed by Scott Freet and Dan Jensen.
