After coming up just one position short of a last-to-first charge last week, Terry McCarl found his fourth row starting spot more to his liking as he captured the outlaw sprint feature Sunday night at Huset’s Speedway. Leonard Lee shot from his pole starting spot to take the lead at the start of the twenty-five lap event closely followed by last week’s feature winner Jake Peters. McCarl looked to have his work cut out for him as the pair pulled away from the rest of the field early in the race and they along with several other top competitors, including Knoxville point leader Skip Jackson, loomed between McCarl and the $2000 check that awaited the winner. Lap twelve saw McCarl finally get by Jackson to take over the third spot, but Lee and Peters still remained over a quarter of a lap ahead of him, and a track that had become dry and slick from high winds seemed to be working against him. But similar to last week, a much-needed caution flew on the fourteenth circuit for a spin by Matt Wasmund bunched the field on the restart, giving McCarl the break he needed. Two laps following the restart McCarl disposed of Peters after the pair ran side-by-side for a lap and then quickly ran down Lee. With eight laps remaining, McCarl used a clean slide job to pass Lee in the second turn, with Lee returning the favor half a lap later. Lee’s pass carried him too high on the track, however, and McCarl darted under him to take a lead that he would eventually stretch to ten car lengths at the finish. Peters finished a strong third followed by Kenny Hansen, Gregg Bakker and Chad Radel, while Jackson faded to seventh.

Dean Brown led all the way in winning the Pam Oil/AC Delco/Valvoline/Lewis/Pepsi 360 sprint car feature. Brown blew past front row starters Lee Goos and Kim Muntefering at the start of the eighteen lap event and went the rest of the way unchallenged as the eighteen car field ran the race non-stop. With Brown checked out on the rest of the field, the battle was for second and it was Chad Meyer coming from the fifth row to pass fourth row starter John Miller on the final lap for runner-up honors. Miller settled for third ahead of Clint Garner and Chuck McGillivray.

Dave Olivier led wire-to-wire in winning his first ever Brandon Valley Insurance late model stock car feature. Olivier came from the third row to pass Jeff Mott for the lead on the fourth lap of the sixteen lap event, and then held off a hard charging Dan Jensen the final ten circuits to take a well earned victory. A four car scramble for third found Dale Furby just edging fellow sixth row starter Brad Wollman for that position with Perry Tschetter and last week’s winner Jeff Kroger right behind.
